Running your business: invoicing, taxes and cash flow

A legal status you chose on purpose, invoices accepted the first time, taxes set aside in advance and a fixed income every month

  • 12 h of training
  • 6 modules · 29 lessons
  • 69 exercises
  • 2 projects
  • Certificate included

What you will be able to do

  • Choose and register an independent business in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire (NINEA, RCCM, entreprenant, CEPICI)
  • Prepare compliant quotes, invoices and credit notes in FCFA and in foreign currencies
  • Handle a freelancer's tax obligations: CGU, IR, VAT, withholding tax, filing calendar
  • Organize multi-channel payment collection and debt recovery
  • Build and monitor a 12-month cash flow plan
  • Keep simplified accounts and a financial dashboard

What you will produce

  • Your legal status decision memo and your checklist of procedures
  • Your quote, invoice and credit note templates, compliant with your status
  • Your tax sheet and your filing calendar
  • Your unpaid invoice reminder procedure and your formal notice template
  • Your 12-month cash flow plan with a fixed income and a reserve
  • Your income and expense ledger and your monthly reconciliation
  • Your eight-indicator financial dashboard

Possible earnings

This level does not promise direct extra income: it protects what you already bring in. On a business earning 500,000 FCFA (about $830) a month, a structured reminder process routinely recovers 50,000 to 150,000 FCFA (about $85 to $250) of unpaid invoices per quarter, and the right legal status opens the door to structured clients whose assignments often exceed 500,000 FCFA (practices observed in Dakar and Abidjan in 2026; no income is guaranteed).

Indicative estimate, depending on your market, pace and work. No income is guaranteed.

  • Issue compliant quotes, invoices and credit notes, numbered with no gaps, in FCFA as well as in foreign currency
  • Identify the taxes that apply to you, set money aside every month and keep a filing calendar
  • Apply VAT at 18% correctly when it is due and factor withholding tax into your prices
  • Reduce unpaid invoices with a step-by-step reminder procedure up to a formal notice
  • Build a 12-month cash flow plan and pay yourself a fixed income with a three-month reserve
  • Keep an income and expense ledger, reconcile your statements and track eight financial indicators

  • Having taken "Selling your services: offer, quote and negotiation" (level 2), or already selling regular assignments to several clients

About this course

You are selling. Clients pay, sometimes late. The money lands in your Wave account, gets mixed with your personal spending and disappears. One day an NGO or a company asks for your NINEA (national tax ID), a "compliant" invoice, and tells you it will apply withholding tax. You do not know whether you should charge VAT, or how much you will owe the tax office at the end of the year. This course puts your business in order, using the real rules of Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. You compare legal statuses (informal, entreprenant, sole proprietorship, SUARL single-member company) with real figures, then follow the procedures step by step: NINEA and RCCM (trade and companies register) in Senegal, entreprenant registration with CEPICI (the investment promotion center) in Côte d'Ivoire. You issue quotes, invoices and credit notes with the right mentions, including in euros for diaspora clients. You learn which tax applies to you (CGU single global contribution, IR income tax, CEL local economic contribution, the entreprenant tax), when VAT (TVA) at 18% applies and how to handle the withholding tax (BRS) deducted by your corporate clients. You organize payments through Wave, Orange Money, bank transfer and international payment, you chase unpaid invoices and you know when to move to a formal notice or an OHADA order for payment. Finally, you separate your accounts, build a 12-month cash flow plan, pay yourself a fixed income and track eight financial indicators. Six modules, 23 lessons, a PDF handout and a quiz for each module, and two graded projects: your administrative and tax file, then your 12-month financial system. Rates, thresholds and administrative fees are those in force in September 2026, dated and linked to their source (DGID, APIX, CEPICI, DGI Côte d'Ivoire, OHADA), and every lesson tells you when to bring in an accountant. The examples are fictional and presented as such. Place in the Freelance and digital entrepreneurship track: this level 3 comes after "Selling your services: offer, quote and negotiation" (level 2) and before "Growing your agency: processes, subcontracting and hiring" (level 4). This course does not replace personalized tax advice.

Who it is for: Freelancers, consultants and digital service providers in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and across the region (Bamako, Cotonou) who already bring in money regularly, as well as members of the diaspora who invoice African clients, and who want to put their legal status, invoices, taxes and cash flow in order.

Questions about this course

Do I have to set up a company to take this course?

No. Module 1 helps you decide with real figures, and some learners conclude it is too early. Everything else (invoices, reminders, cash flow, dashboard) applies whatever your status.

Are the amounts and tax thresholds up to date?

The principles are stable (NINEA, RCCM, entreprenant, VAT at 18%, withholding tax). The thresholds, rates and registration fees given are those of September 2026, with their source (DGID, APIX, CEPICI, DGI Côte d'Ivoire, OHADA). They can change with each finance law, voted in December: the course shows you where to check the new figures every January.

I live in France and invoice clients in Dakar. Is this course for me?

Partly. Modules 2, 4, 5 and 6 (foreign currency invoices, international payments, cash flow, dashboard) apply directly. For your taxation in France you still need local advice; the course flags the points to raise with that advisor.

Does this course replace an accountant?

No. It makes you self-sufficient for day-to-day matters and teaches you to prepare what an accountant will ask you for. Module 6 tells you when to hire one, how much it costs and what to hand over.

How much time should I plan?

About 12 hours, including exercises and projects. Plan 3 hours a week for 4 weeks, plus the time needed for administrative procedures, which depends on the offices involved.

How is this different from the lesson on legal status in level 1?

Level 1 tells you when to ask yourself the question. This level 3 has you compare statuses, complete the procedures, invoice, file your taxes and manage your money day to day.

How do I pay?

Via Wave or Orange Money. After enrolling you receive a pro forma invoice by email with the number to pay. Send the proof on WhatsApp: your access is activated within 24 business hours.

How long do I keep access?

For life, updates included. Learn at your own pace and revisit lessons as often as you need.

How do I get the certificate?

Complete the lessons and pass each module quiz with at least 70%. The certificate is generated automatically, with a unique number and a public verification page.
