The verdict in three sentences
If you already run a digital business in Dakar with regular clients, your problem is no longer learning the trade but building a profitable company that depends less on your time. An MBA or executive education brings a network and a degree for 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 FCFA (about 3,000 to 7,600 EUR) as an order of magnitude, an incubator brings support and visibility but is selective, and Kolonell Academy level 5 Advanced (200,000 FCFA, 40 h) brings a method applied to your own numbers. The right choice depends on what you lack: a title, a network, or a concrete growth plan.
Three routes compared for a Dakar business owner
The typical situation: an agency, studio or consultant based in Dakar, two or three clients making up half of revenue, every month starting almost from zero, and ideas (a product, a new country, a large account, a partner) with no method to decide.
| Criterion | MBA or executive education | Incubator or accelerator | Kolonell Academy, level 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost (2026 order of magnitude) | 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 FCFA | Free, or an equity stake | 200,000 FCFA (305 EUR) |
| Duration | 12 to 24 months, often evenings or weekends | 3 to 12 months depending on the program | 40 h, i.e. 8 to 10 weeks at 4-5 h a week |
| Access | Application, sometimes an exam | Very selective, calls for applications | Open, free module 1 to try |
| Format | In-person classes, group work | Mentoring, workshops, events | Written lessons, PDFs, quizzes, 10 projects to submit, online |
| What you get | Degree, cohort network | Network, visibility, sometimes funding | A 24-month growth plan on your numbers, verifiable certificate |
| Suited if | You aim for an executive role or institutional network | You seek investors or an ecosystem | You want to structure and grow your business now |
These routes are not mutually exclusive. An incubator often asks for a costed business model and a solid file: that is exactly what level 5 has you produce. Conversely, the course does not replace an MBA cohort network, and it includes no individual mentoring and no live classes.
What level 5 has you produce
The Digital Entrepreneur: build a profitable offer and grow it course, taught in French, has ten modules, 42 written lessons, a PDF handout and a quiz per module, and ten projects to submit, one per module, which come together into a final project.
| Module | Project to submit |
|---|---|
| 1. Diagnosis and three-year direction (free preview) | Business diagnosis and a costed three-year target |
| 2. A profitable flagship offer | Productised flagship offer (fixed scope, price and timeline) and value ladder |
| 3. Unit economics | Google Sheets simulator in three scenarios: margin, acquisition cost, lifetime value |
| 4. Recurring revenue | Recurring offer and anti-churn plan |
| 5. Digital products | A digital product validated by pre-orders, sold via Wave, Orange Money or card |
| 6. Acquisition system | Multichannel system: content, Google, LinkedIn, referral partners, events |
| 7. Large accounts and public tenders | Large-account or tender file (ARCOP, donors, foreign clients) |
| 8. Structure and funding | OHADA structure (SARL, SAS, SUARL) and funding file |
| 9. Organisation and leadership | Target organisation and management by objectives |
| 10. Steering over 24 months | Final project: 24-month growth plan, 12-indicator dashboard, 10-minute video presentation |
Module 8 cites the schemes published in September 2026 (DER/FJ, FONGIP, ADEPME, banks) without guaranteeing anything: each body decides case by case. Module 7 also covers invoicing the diaspora and BCEAO foreign-exchange rules.
Prerequisites: have completed level 4 "Growing your agency" or already run a digital business with regular clients and at least one employee or subcontractor, have your figures for the last 12 months (even rough ones) and be comfortable with simple Google Sheets formulas.
This is the final level of the Freelance and Digital Entrepreneurship track. The full 5-level track costs 350,000 FCFA instead of 450,000, useful if you are still starting out.
Mini case study
Consider a hypothetical learner: Ibrahima, 35, runs a four-person web studio in Dakar with 36,000,000 FCFA in annual sales, only 10% of it recurring. He is weighing an executive MBA at about 3,500,000 FCFA against level 5 at 200,000 FCFA.

Illustrative calculation: if, applying module 4, he moves five one-off clients onto a maintenance plan at 75,000 FCFA a month, that would represent 375,000 FCFA of monthly recurring revenue, or 4,500,000 FCFA over a year. The course would be covered in the first month of those contracts, and the cost gap with the MBA (3,300,000 FCFA) could fund a hire. This scenario is a hypothesis: the course page states that no financial result is guaranteed.
FAQ
Is level 5 suitable if I am still looking for my first clients?
No. It is for businesses that already run. If you are looking for your first clients, start with level 1 of the track; if you first need to organise a team, level 4.
How much time should I plan?
About 40 hours, exercises and 10 projects included, i.e. 4 to 5 hours a week for 8 to 10 weeks. The projects use your own figures: the time spent directly serves your business.
Do I need to want to raise funds?
No. Module 8 starts with self-financing and non-dilutive schemes (DER/FJ: 100,000 to 2 million FCFA at 5% under the conditions published in September 2026). Many service businesses never need investors.
Is the certificate worth an MBA?
No, and it does not claim to be. You receive a numbered Kolonell Academy certificate, verifiable online (QR code), to add to LinkedIn, by passing the quizzes at 70% minimum; your final project must also be approved by a reviewer. Its practical value lies mostly in the 15 to 20-page growth plan you produce.
Can I try before paying 200,000 FCFA?
Yes, module 1 on the business diagnosis is free. After payment by Wave or Orange Money, access is activated within 24 working hours, for life, but is no longer refundable once activated. Questions go on the course forum and through WhatsApp support.
