The verdict in three sentences
If you run a small design, video or web development studio in Abidjan and already turn down work, your problem is no longer finding clients but delivering without every file going through your hands. Kolonell Academy's level 4 Intermediate course (100,000 FCFA, about 152 EUR, 20 h) covers exactly this transition: standardised offers, subcontracting with a calculated margin, first hire through a practical test and agency finances with break-even. Compared with private coaching or some incubation programs (roughly 300,000 to 1,000,000 FCFA), it is a cheaper option, provided your invoicing and cash flow are already in order.
Who it is for, and when
The program starts from four signals that you have hit the freelance ceiling: hours, turned-down work, slipping deadlines and income that no longer moves despite price increases. If you work evenings and weekends in Cocody or the Plateau for stagnating income, you are the target.
The prerequisites are real and worth reading before you pay:
- having completed level 3 "Running your business: invoicing, taxes and cash flow", or already keeping clean invoicing and cash flow;
- selling your services regularly, ideally 500,000 FCFA a month or more, or already turning down work for lack of time;
- being comfortable with Google Drive, Google Sheets and a task tool such as Trello or Notion.
You do not need a team yet: module 1 checks that the time has come, then modules 4 and 5 take you to your first subcontractors and your first employee.
Ways to train in 2026: price and content
| Option in Abidjan | 2026 price | Format | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-learning (books, podcasts, YouTube) | 0 to 30,000 FCFA | Free, scattered | Ideas, rarely a complete system |
| Incubation or acceleration program | Variable, sometimes selective or paid (rough estimate) | Cohorts, fixed schedule | Network, mentoring, sometimes funding |
| Private coaching by a consultant | 300,000 to 1,000,000 FCFA (rough estimate) | One-to-one sessions | Personalised advice on your case |
| Kolonell Academy, level 4 | 100,000 FCFA (about 152 EUR) | Written lessons, PDFs, quizzes, 8 projects to submit, lifetime access | Procedures, contracts, financial model and 12-month plan applied to your agency |
To be honest: the course does not replace an incubator's network or a consultant's one-to-one advice. It includes no video, no live class and no personal coaching; support goes through the course forum and WhatsApp. What it does give you is a complete method and templates to fill with your own figures, for a much lower price.

For an Ivorian founder, module 5 is valuable: it presents the full cost of an employee and social obligations in Côte d'Ivoire, including the 7.7% CNPS pension contribution, under the rules in force in September 2026. Tools used: Google Drive, Google Sheets, Trello, Notion, ClickUp, WhatsApp Business, Google Meet, Canva, Wave, Orange Money and LinkedIn.
This level belongs to the Freelance and digital entrepreneurship track, before level 5 "Digital entrepreneur: building a profitable offer and growing it". The full five-level track costs 350,000 FCFA instead of 450,000 FCFA.
Mini case study
Learn this skill with Kolonell Academy
Short, practical online courses (taught in French), graded exercises, certificate. Pay with Wave or Orange Money.
Consider a hypothetical learner: Aïcha, 33, founder of a design studio in Abidjan, sells about 900,000 FCFA a month and turns down two jobs a month for lack of time.
- Cost: 100,000 FCFA for the course, 20 hours over five weeks.
- Assumption: she hands a 300,000 FCFA job to a subcontractor paid 150,000 FCFA, with a coefficient of 2 calculated in module 4.
- Illustrative calculation: the 150,000 FCFA gross margin on a single subcontracted job would cover the course, before the time spent briefing and checking.
This scenario is an illustrative calculation, not an achieved result. According to the program, a small agency of 3 to 5 people in Dakar or Abidjan commonly makes 1.5 to 4 million FCFA in monthly sales, but this is a highly variable order of magnitude, and no income is guaranteed.
FAQ
Do I need to set up a limited company before starting?
Not necessarily. Module 1 compares sole proprietorship, SUARL and SARL according to your revenue, your partners and your risk exposure, referring to level 3 for the formalities.
How much time should I plan?
About 20 hours, exercises and eight projects included, or 4 hours a week for 5 weeks. Each project uses your own business.
How do I stop a subcontractor from leaving with my client?
Module 4 provides a subcontracting contract with confidentiality, transfer of rights and client non-solicitation, and stresses a relationship (clear brief, payment on a fixed date) that makes good freelancers want to stay.
What certificate do I get?
A numbered Kolonell Academy certificate, verifiable online (QR code), to add to LinkedIn, after passing the quizzes of the eight modules with at least 70%; your final project must also be approved by a reviewer. It is not a state diploma.
How do I pay from Abidjan?
By Wave or Orange Money at +221 77 596 93 33, with access activated within 24 working hours and open for life. The course is not refundable once access is activated, so read module 1 first, which is free to preview.
