Senegal SME solar quote: the commercial chain that kills 70% of deals

The Senegal SME solar market is booming in 2026. Repeated SENELEC outages (Diamniadio, Mbao, Sébikotane industrial zones suffer 15-40 outages/month). Rising tariffs: SENELEC pro rate went from 95 FCFA/kWh (2022) to 142 FCFA/kWh (2026), with further hikes planned. Diesel: 800-950 FCFA/liter or 220-280 FCFA/kWh generated.

Result: 1,800-2,500 Senegalese SMEs consider solar transition in 2026. B2B installation market: ~85-150 billion FCFA / year.

But: 70% of leads are lost between first contact and signature. Why? Excessive quote delays (8-15 days before SME response), approximate Excel quotes, complex paper signature, deposit requested by bank transfer (maximum friction).

Solar Pro Senegal, SME photovoltaic installer founded 2020 in Dakar, contacted me in March 2025. 22% signature rate after quote. Fourteen months later: 47% signature (×2.1), 1.2 billion FCFA revenue. Here is the automation mechanism.

H2: 6-question configurator

The online configurator (integrated to site, accessible 24/7) asks only 6 inputs:

  • Monthly kWh consumption (SENELEC bill upload or FCFA amount → auto conversion)
  • Available roof area sqm (with optional satellite photo via Google Maps API)
  • Main roof orientation (South / Southeast / Southwest / East-West / other)
  • Building type (industrial, office, warehouse, retail, restaurant)
  • Estimated budget (5 ranges: <15M / 15-40M / 40-100M / 100-300M / >300M FCFA)
  • Desired timeline (urgent <2 months / 2-6 months / 6-12 months / no rush)

Instant calculation: required kWc dimensioning (rule of thumb 1 kWc = 1,500 kWh/year in Senegal), 550W panel count, required area, inverter, optional batteries, price range estimate.

H2: Auto PDF generation

Once the 6 answers are validated, the system generates in 8 seconds:

  • 4-page PDF quote: page 1 technical summary (kWc, panels, inverter), page 2 financial (price excl/incl tax, estimated savings, ROI), page 3 typical installation diagram, page 4 conditions + planning.
  • Economic study: current SENELEC bill vs solar bill + residual SENELEC comparison over 25 years, break-even point (5-9 years typical).
  • Simplified electrical diagram: panels → optimizers → inverter (string or micro-inverter) → electrical panel → building + grid injection if authorized.

PDF sent by email + WhatsApp + stored in client portal.

H2: Electronic signature + Wave deposit

Signature. DocuSign integration or local alternative (e-Signature.sn). Client signs from phone in 3 minutes. Link active 7 days.

Deposit. 30% at signature payable via:

  • Wave (recommended, instant, 0% fees up to 100 KFCFA)
  • Orange Money
  • Bank transfer (CBAO, BICIS, Ecobank)
  • On-site check (Dakar only)

Wave represents 65% of deposit payments <5M FCFA. For deposits >5M: bank transfer dominates.

H2: Integrated CRM (Prisma + Neon PG)

All leads land in custom CRM:

Need a professional website?

Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.

  • Pipeline status: configurator visitor → quote generated → quote opened → quote signed → deposit paid → installation scheduled → installation completed → after-sales
  • Auto WhatsApp + email reminders (D+1, D+3, D+7, D+14)
  • Commercial notes per lead
  • Sales assignment (4 Solar Pro reps)
  • Weekly reporting: conversion rate by stage

H2: Typical 2026 pricing

  • Small SME system 5 kWc (shop, restaurant): 4.5-7.5 M FCFA installed
  • SME system 15 kWc (office, workshop): 12-19 M FCFA
  • SME system 30 kWc (factory, medium warehouse): 22-38 M FCFA
  • 100 kWc system (large industrial SME): 65-110 M FCFA
  • 500 kWc system (industry / hospitality): 280-450 M FCFA
  • 1 MW+ system: 580 M-1.1 billion FCFA

Typical installer margin: 18-28% gross by volume and equipment negotiation.

H2: Installer investments

Upfront investment: 127-242 M FCFA. Monthly recurring: ~20 M FCFA. For 95 installations × 12 M FCFA average basket = 1.14 billion FCFA / year. Net margin 12-18% = 140-205 M FCFA / year.

FAQ

How long between lead and signature?

Before automation: 18-25 day average. After: 4-7 day average. For urgent lead: signature possible in 48h (online configurator Monday evening + technical visit Tuesday + adjusted quote Wednesday + signature Thursday).

Configurator vs technical visit quote accuracy?

Configurator: accuracy ±15-20% (quick estimate). Mandatory technical visit before installation: final adjustment ±3-5%. 88% of configurator quotes stay within final range (no nasty client surprise).

Which inverter to choose: string or micro-inverter?

String (Huawei, SMA, Fronius): cheaper, simple, but 1 shaded panel penalizes whole string. Micro-inverter (Enphase): +20-30% cost but per-panel optimization, fine monitoring, 25-year lifespan vs 10 years for string. SMEs: string for budget, micro for premium.

Lithium batteries necessary for SMEs?

Not systematically. SMEs mostly operate during day (9am-6pm) = solar production = direct consumption without battery. Batteries useful if: significant night use (data center, hotel, evening restaurant), frequent outage zone. Battery surcharge: +35-60% of total system.

2026 standard warranties?

Panels: 25 years linear yield 84% (Jinko, Longi, JA Solar). String inverter: 10 years (paid 20-year extension). Micro-inverter: 25 years. Installation (labor): 2 years installer. Overall performance: 20 years with insurer (AXA, Allianz).
