The verdict in three sentences
Oxford is a small charter market with a handful of brokers serving university, business and private clients through London Oxford Airport, so very few local agencies have built a charter site before, and most specialist work is bought from London. That makes the real choice one between a general Oxford agency you can meet, a London specialist you will rarely see, and a remote studio with a fixed price such as Kolonell Growth at £3,900 or Premium at £6,900. Pick on scenario, not on habit: launch timing, photography and how much you need face-to-face contact decide it more than the build fee.
Which situations favour which provider?
| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Full rebrand plus website, board workshops | Local Oxford or London agency | Several in-person sessions, brand work beyond the site |
| Site must be live before the summer yacht season | Remote studio | 3 to 4 weeks once content is ready, fixed date |
| New team photos at London Oxford Airport and on a partner yacht | Local agency or local photographer | On-site days; photographer is a third-party cost either way |
| One-person brokerage, imagery supplied by operators | Remote studio | Small scope, video calls in UK hours are enough |
| Paid search campaigns with weekly reviews | Local agency | Ongoing relationship, campaign work on top of the build |
| French or Italian-speaking clients alongside English | Remote studio, Premium | Multilingual tier, languages set in the quote |
None of these rows is about who is "better". They are about which kind of work dominates your project.
What should an Oxford broker site contain?
The brief for a broker is specific. Say clearly that you arrange flights with operators holding an air operator certificate, and yacht charters on vessels certified for commercial use; never imply that you operate aircraft or yachts. Build a few strong trip pages rather than many thin ones: business day trips to European cities from London Oxford Airport, family trips to the Alps in winter, and Mediterranean yacht weeks. Keep the inquiry form to dates, route, departure airport or marina, number of guests and contact details; that respects data minimisation under UK GDPR and is quicker on a phone. Never publish client names, aircraft registrations or photos you have no rights to. Operators or a third-party photographer grant image rights, and the cost is theirs to agree with you, never a Kolonell fee.
What does each route cost over three years?
A 2026 ballpark built from typical agency quotes and public agency rate pages in Oxford and London, not a survey. Maintenance and hosting figures are market assumptions, not Kolonell prices.
| Cost item over 3 years | Local Oxford studio | London specialist | Kolonell Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build | £8,000 to £16,000 | £15,000 to £30,000 | £3,900 |
| Support included | 1 to 3 months | 1 to 3 months | 3 months |
| Maintenance, 33 months (market assumption £80 to £200/month) | £2,640 to £6,600 | £2,640 to £6,600 | On quote |
| Hosting in your name, 36 months (market assumption £15 to £40/month) | £540 to £1,440 | £540 to £1,440 | £540 to £1,440 |
| Known total before Kolonell maintenance | £11,180 to £24,040 | £18,180 to £38,040 | £4,440 to £5,340 |
The Kolonell column excludes maintenance after the 3 included months, which is on quote. Even so, the gap on the build alone is large, which is why the decision should rest on the scenarios above rather than on the totals. See the international offer for what each tier includes.
When is the local agency the honest answer?
When you need people in the room. If your partners want to see moodboards on a table, if you are shooting at the airport and on a yacht in the same month, or if the website is one piece of a wider brand and campaign programme, a local or London agency is the better choice and worth the premium. A remote studio suits a lean broker who wants a fast, discreet site and is comfortable with video calls during UK hours.
Ask every provider: Will the domain, hosting and repository be in our name? Who drafts the broker and operator wording? How are inquiries stored and deleted? Is the cookie banner PECR compliant, with no analytics before consent? Which WCAG 2.2 AA checks are run before launch? UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply to inquiries, the ICO is the regulator and the Equality Act 2010 underpins the accessibility target. This is not legal advice.
Mini case study
Need a professional website?
Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.
Illustrative example: Harriet Lowe runs a fictional charter brokerage in Summertown and wants her new site live before the yacht season. She is ready to start on 16 February.
- Local studio: 12 weeks of build after a 2-week discovery, so 14 weeks, live around 25 May. Quote: £12,500.
- Kolonell Growth: 3 weeks of content collection with her copywriter, then 4 weeks of build, so 7 weeks, live around 6 April. Price: £3,900.
Harriet gains 7 weeks of season visibility and keeps £8,600 of budget. She spends £900 of it on a local photographer (a third-party cost) for her own portrait and office, and uses operator imagery for aircraft and yachts.
FAQ
Is there a big pool of charter-savvy agencies in Oxford?
No. Oxford has capable general agencies, but very few with aviation or yachting work; specialist studios are mostly in London, about an hour away, with builds often starting around £15,000.
Should London Oxford Airport have its own page?
Yes, if it answers practical questions such as access, typical routes and how quotes are prepared. A single page of 700 to 900 words is usually enough.
Can we list charter prices?
Prices depend on operators, routes and dates, so most brokers show "on request". Publishing indicative prices requires agreement with operators and regular checks, at least monthly.
What happens after the 3 months of support?
You can maintain the site yourself through the CMS or ask Kolonell for a maintenance quote. The code, domain and hosting stay in your name either way.
Which tier suits a one-person brokerage?
Growth at £3,900 covers trip pages, inquiry form, CMS and blog. Starter at £2,300 fits a very small site; Premium at £6,900 is the multilingual tier.
