The verdict in three sentences
For an interior design studio in Stockholm focused on kitchens, bathrooms and bespoke joinery, the website has to show the material, the joinery detail and the work of partner craftsmen, then sort inquiries by budget. A local agency makes sense if you want an in-house photographer and videographer, in-person workshops and a Swedish-first site. If your photos already exist or can go to a freelance photographer, a remote studio at a fixed price, Growth at EUR 4,500 or Premium at EUR 8,200, delivers a fast portfolio in 3 to 4 weeks.
This guide is for studio owners working across Stockholm, from Södermalm to Östermalm, Vasastan to Kungsholmen, and out to Lidingö or Nacka.
What does a kitchen and joinery studio site need to do?
In Stockholm, many of your projects happen in older co-operative apartments (bostadsrätt), with mouldings, parquet floors and housing association constraints, or in villas in the neighbouring municipalities. Clients want to see oiled oak, stone, linoleum, handles and the quality of the finish. The site is a gallery first, but a gallery that has to load fast on a phone.
| Site element | Why it matters | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Portfolio by project type (kitchen, bathroom, storage, joinery) | Visitors look for a project like theirs | Medium: sorting and captions |
| WebP or AVIF images, lazy loading | Galleries of 30 to 60 photos per project, viewed on phones | Technical, included from Starter |
| Partner craftsmen and suppliers page | Shows the making chain, described in general terms | Low |
| Project inquiry form with budget range and timeline | Filters out-of-scope requests | Low, large time saving |
| Process and fees page (no invented figures) | Explains the steps and how you bill | Low |
| Links to Instagram, Pinterest and Houzz | Your clients save inspiration there | Low |
| Image SEO (file names, alt text) | Searches such as bespoke kitchen Stockholm | Medium |
Two honesty rules apply to content. The press page should only list real features, never assumed awards or rankings. And only use the word architect if someone on the team actually holds that title: call yourself a design studio, an interior design studio or a joinery design studio.
Local agency or remote studio: who wins on what?
| Criterion | Advantage | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Site visits and shoots | Local agency | Photographer and videographer available by the half day |
| Swedish-first site | Local agency | Native Swedish copy without an outside reviewer |
| Time to launch | Remote studio | 3 to 4 weeks vs 8 to 14 |
| Price and predictability | Remote studio | Fixed grid vs roughly EUR 7,000 to 27,000 |
| English or French copy | Remote studio | Native copywriting included |
| Time-zone overlap | Tie | Project manager reachable in your time zone |
| Ownership of domain, code and content | Negotiate in both cases | Everything should be in the studio's name |
2026 ballparks based on public agency rate pages: SEK 80,000 to 300,000 for an agency portfolio site, about EUR 7,100 to 26,800, and SEK 30,000 to 90,000 with a freelancer, about EUR 2,700 to 8,000. Advertised hourly rates sit around SEK 1,000 to 1,600, about EUR 90 to 145.
When the Stockholm agency is the better call
If you have no professional photos, your clients are almost all Swedish speakers and you want a short film of the workshop, a local agency with in-house production saves you coordination time. The same holds if you want monthly social media support.
When a remote studio is enough
You already have photos or work with an interiors photographer you trust, your clients include expats and international families, and you want an English-first site with Swedish reviewed by a freelance translator (third-party cost). A remote studio covers the core at a fixed price.
Photos, discretion and data: what to lock down
Under Swedish law, as elsewhere in Europe, the photographer generally keeps the copyright and you buy usage rights. Get web, social and print use, duration and credit line in writing. For clients, never publish an address, avoid identifiable street views and get written consent before showing a home. The inquiry form falls under the GDPR, supervised by IMY (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten): ask only what you need to qualify the request, state the retention period and host the site in the EU. Aim for WCAG 2.1 AA, with useful alt text on every image. This is not legal advice.

Mini case study
Illustrative example: Elin runs a kitchen and joinery design studio in Vasastan that works with four partner workshops. She gets about 20 inquiries a month, half of them outside her budget range. Each unqualified inquiry costs her 30 minutes, so 5 hours a month.
With a form that asks for a budget range and timeline, she expects to screen out 8 in 10 of those before any call. Saving: 4 hours a month at EUR 60 an hour, so EUR 240 a month and EUR 2,880 a year. She picks Premium at EUR 8,200 (the multilingual tier, languages set in the quote) for English and Swedish. Over 3 years the gap with the agency is EUR 11,000, and the time saved is worth EUR 8,640.
Decision checklist
- Do my photos exist, and do I hold written usage rights?
- Which language do my clients really read?
- Do I need in-person workshops, or are video calls enough?
- Will the domain and code be in my name?
- Who updates the portfolio after launch?
FAQ
Can a remote studio handle very heavy galleries?
Yes: WebP or AVIF conversion, screen-sized images and lazy loading often cut page weight by 60 to 80%. This is included from the Starter tier at EUR 2,700.
Do we need a Swedish site?
If more than half your clients are Swedish speakers, yes. Premium at EUR 8,200 covers several languages, with a Swedish review by a freelance translator at around EUR 400 to 800 depending on volume (third-party cost).
Should we publish our fees?
You can explain how you bill, fixed fee or share of the budget, without numbers. A form with 3 or 4 budget bands qualifies better than a public price list.
How do we show a project without exposing the client?
No address, no street view, first names or initials only, and written consent before publishing. Allow 1 to 2 weeks to collect consent for a recent project.
Houzz, Instagram or Pinterest: which should we link?
Link the ones you post on at least once a month. A dead link or an account inactive for 2 years does more harm than no link.
