Freelancer in Mbour: Invoicing, Taxes and Cash Flow Course (2026)

Digital Marketing

The verdict in three sentences

In Mbour and along the Petite-Côte, many digital freelancers collect 300,000 to 1,000,000 FCFA a month with no legal status, no compliant invoice and no tax reserve, which shuts them out of hotels, NGOs and companies that require a NINEA (Senegal's business ID). The most expensive problem is not tax, it is cash flow: 20 to 40% of invoices are paid late, and personal money gets mixed with business money. A short 18-hour course at 75,000 FCFA (about 115 EUR) is enough to choose a status, invoice properly, set aside taxes and pay yourself a fixed income.

What administrative chaos costs

Mbour lives on tourism, fishing, Saly real estate and a network of SMEs. Hotels, residences and NGOs in the area buy websites, visuals, videos and social media management. But their accounts departments often refuse to pay without a proper invoice.

Status, taxes and tools: key reference points

In Senegal, registration goes through the NINEA, which is free to obtain, and where relevant the RCCM trade register. Small sole businesses usually fall under the CGU (single global contribution), a simplified tax that replaces several taxes below a revenue ceiling. Above it you move to the standard regime, with income tax (BNC for intellectual services) and 18% VAT. Exact rules depend on your activity and change over time: the course details them and teaches you how to check them.

The course Run your business: invoicing, taxes and cash flow, taught in French, is level 3, intermediate, of the track. In six modules you choose and set up your status in Senegal or Côte d'Ivoire, issue compliant quotes, invoices and credit notes, understand CGU, BNC, income tax, 18% VAT and withholding tax, collect faster and chase unpaid invoices, manage cash flow with a fixed income, and keep simple books. To go further, the Freelance and Entrepreneurship track bundles 5 levels for 350,000 FCFA instead of 450,000. Payment by Wave or Orange Money.

The three-account method

The simplest rule to apply this week: split money into three envelopes, for example a Wave account for the business, an Orange Money or bank account for taxes, and your personal account.

Mini case study

Ibrahima, 30, a freelance designer and community manager in Mbour, bills an average of 650,000 FCFA a month. Without a NINEA, he lost two hotel contracts in Saly last year at 400,000 FCFA each, so 800,000 FCFA. He also constantly waits on about 30% of his invoices, 195,000 FCFA blocked every month.

Learn this skill with Kolonell Academy

Short, practical online courses (taught in French), graded exercises, certificate. Pay with Wave or Orange Money.

After the 75,000 FCFA course, he gets his NINEA for free, switches to compliant invoices with a 50% deposit, and follows up at day 7 and day 15. If he wins back a single 400,000 FCFA hotel contract during the year, the gain is more than five times the course price. With deposits, his late payments drop from 195,000 FCFA to about 90,000 FCFA blocked. These amounts are an example calculation, not a guaranteed result.

FAQ

Does the NINEA cost anything?

No, obtaining it is free. Any fees come from the RCCM or an intermediary, roughly 50,000 to 150,000 FCFA if you use a firm.

Do I have to charge 18% VAT?

Not always. It depends on your tax regime and revenue. The tax module teaches you to work out your case before your next invoice.

Does the course replace an accountant?

For a solo freelancer billing under one million FCFA a month, it often lets you manage day to day without one. Above that, it equips you to work with an accountant at 25,000 to 75,000 FCFA a month on equal terms.

How long does it take?

18 hours of lessons, about 3 weeks at 6 hours a week. Status paperwork can run in parallel.

How do I pay?

The 75,000 FCFA is paid by Wave or Orange Money. The full 5-level track costs 350,000 FCFA instead of 450,000.
