Senegal EV charging stations: a creating market in 2026

To support EV growth, charging infrastructure is critical. At start 2024: 3 public stations in Dakar. End 2026: ~80-120 public stations + ~500-1,200 installed home stations.

2026 station installation market: ~1.5-3 billion FCFA / year.

ChargePro Dakar, founded late 2023, contacted me in May 2024. 35 stations installed. Fourteen months later: 280 stations (×8), 150 M FCFA revenue. Here is the mechanism.

Home: standard outlet or wallbox?

220V standard outlet (2.3 kW): slow charging 18-30h. 7 kW wallbox: 5-8h charging. 11 kW wallbox (three-phase): 3-5h charging. 22 kW wallbox: 1.5-3h charging. For daily use: 7 kW wallbox ideal.

Home installation: how long?

Half day to 1 day by complexity (Sénélec meter to upgrade if > 7 kW + wiring). Includes: prior visit, wiring, wallbox installation, commissioning, usage training.

Public station vs home charging cost?

Home (Sénélec rate): ~85-145 FCFA / kWh = 4-7 KFCFA for full Atto 3 charge (50 kWh). Public station (with operator margin): 280-450 FCFA / kWh = 14-22 KFCFA for same charge. Home 3-4x cheaper.

Smart connected station?

Advantages: consumption tracking, integrated payment (for public/shared stations), Sénélec off-peak rate scheduling, solar integration (cf pair 1). 30-50% surcharge vs basic station.

Mandatory IRVE certification?

To install stations > 3.7 kW: yes, IRVE (Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure) certification mandatory. 5-day training + exam.
