Stripe vs Adyen vs Mollie: B2B Fees Comparison in London (2026)

The verdict in three sentences

On 1.2 million EUR collected a year, your payment provider choice costs between 12,000 and 22,000 EUR in fees, roughly a part-time salary. Adyen on interchange++ pricing is cheapest at this volume, with an effective rate of 0.8 to 1.2 %, Stripe remains the most flexible to integrate and expand internationally, and Mollie mostly makes sense for its breadth of European payment methods. The most profitable lever, though, is moving large B2B invoices to instant bank transfers (SEPA Instant in the eurozone, Faster Payments in the UK), which cost pennies.

Watch the B2B trap: many professional buyers pay with corporate cards, which cost more than consumer cards. Across a business customer base, Stripe's effective rate often sits around 1.7 % rather than 1.5 %. For a London company, UK cards on a European Stripe account are also billed at higher rates since Brexit, so check which entity you contract with.

Simulation on 1.2 million EUR a year

Assumption: average order 800 EUR, so 1,500 transactions a year, and 6 disputes a year.

Adyen 50 % card + 50 % instant transfer6,000 EURabout 400 EUR45 EUR6,445 EUR

The gap between the most expensive and the cheapest scenario exceeds 15,000 EUR a year. The integration, between 2,000 and 6,000 EUR, pays for itself in year one if it steers orders above 2,000 EUR to bank transfer.

What a 2,000 to 6,000 EUR integration includes

LevelScopePriceTimeline
Basiccard payment on existing site, confirmation webhooks2,000 EUR1 week
Intermediatecard + SEPA, automatic invoices, accounting reconciliation4,000 EUR2 to 3 weeks
Advancedmulti-provider, amount-based routing, net-30 terms, ERP export6,000 EUR3 to 4 weeks

Amount-based routing is the real optimization: card for small orders, instant transfer or direct debit for large ones, net-30 terms for vetted customers. Since October 2025, the EU Instant Payments Regulation requires instant transfers to cost no more than standard ones, which makes the option very cheap in the eurozone.

Mini case study

Claire, CFO of an SME selling industrial parts to 400 business customers, collects 1.2 million EUR online, all by card through Mollie. Her annual fees: about 22,000 EUR. She orders an Advanced integration at 6,000 EUR: a negotiated 1.0 % card rate, plus instant transfer offered from 1,500 EUR per order.

Result after 6 months: 55 % of revenue moves to bank transfer. Projected 12-month fees: 540,000 EUR x 1.0 % = 5,400 EUR, plus about 450 EUR of fixed and dispute fees, so 5,850 EUR. Annual saving: 22,065 - 5,850 = 16,215 EUR for 6,000 EUR invested. Payback in under 5 months, and settlement brought from D+1 for cards to D+0 for transfers.

FAQ

Is Adyen really cheaper than Stripe?

From roughly 500,000 EUR a year, interchange++ providers often land at 0.8 to 1.2 % effective, against Stripe's public 1.5 %. Stripe also negotiates above 1 million EUR, so ask both for a quote.

Can we use several providers at once?

Yes, an Advanced integration at about 6,000 EUR routes each payment to the cheapest provider by amount and card type. It also reduces the risk of an account freeze.

How do we keep 15 EUR dispute fees down?

3-D Secure authentication shifts fraud liability to the issuing bank. With clear invoices and delivery tracking, a B2B SME stays below 0.5 % disputes.

Are instant bank transfers reliable for B2B?

Yes, they credit the account in under 10 seconds, 24/7, up to 100,000 EUR by default depending on the bank. They require automatic reconciliation, included from the Intermediate integration at 4,000 EUR.

Should we switch provider mid-year?

Migration takes 2 to 4 weeks and does not interrupt collections if both providers run in parallel during the switch.
