The verdict in three sentences

An O&M director managing 60 ground-mounted and rooftop PV plants almost always has monitoring that raises alarms, but no tool linking alarm, work order, subcontractor and contractual availability calculation. That missing link is built with EUR 30,000 to 80,000 excl. VAT of complementary development, plugged into existing monitoring billed at EUR 1 to 3 per kWp per year. Since each availability point is worth EUR 10,000 to 50,000 a year on a portfolio this size, the project usually pays back in under 18 months.

Where availability is lost

In southern Europe, one kWp produces roughly 1,400 to 1,550 kWh a year. A 45 MWp portfolio spread over 60 sites around Marseille therefore generates about 65 GWh. Losses do not come from major failures, detected within hours, but from long-duration faults: a string inverter down on a rooftop for 3 weeks, a stuck tracker, a breaker reset late, a subcontractor arriving on day 9 instead of day 2.

Modules to build on top of monitoring

Market monitoring (inverter portal or multi-brand platform) collects data well. What it does poorly: manage interventions end to end, measure subcontractor compliance with contractual response times, and produce an availability calculation that stands up in O&M contracts and investor reports.

ModuleFunctionBudget excl. VAT 2026
Monitoring connectorMulti-brand alarm and production data retrievalEUR 5,000 to 12,000
Work ordersAutomatic creation from alarms, assignment, photos, closureEUR 7,000 to 18,000

Investor reportingAutomatic monthly report per plantEUR 2,000 to 6,000
TotalDelivered in 4 to 7 monthsEUR 30,000 to 80,000

Recurring costs to plan: market monitoring at EUR 1 to 3 per kWp per year, so EUR 45,000 to 135,000 for 45 MWp, plus EUR 6,000 to 14,000 a year for hosting and maintenance of the custom modules.

Calculating the value of one availability point

The formula is simple: expected annual production times average selling price, times 1 %. For 65 GWh sold at an average EUR 75 per MWh (a mix of feed-in tariffs and contracts for difference), one point is worth about EUR 49,000 a year. On a smaller 15 MWp portfolio, it is around EUR 16,000. That figure should frame the project budget.

Mini case study

Elena, O&M director at an independent power producer in Marseille, runs 60 plants totalling 45 MWp. Measured availability: 97.1 %, against 98.5 % guaranteed to investors. She invests EUR 58,000 excl. VAT in work orders, the technician app and the availability calculation, plus EUR 10,000 a year of maintenance. Within a year, average time to restore drops from 9 to 3 days and availability rises to 98.4 %. Gain: 1.3 points, about EUR 63,000 of extra production a year. Payback: about 13 months.

FAQ

Do we need to change monitoring?

No. The modules connect to your existing monitoring via API or data export. The connector costs EUR 5,000 to 12,000 excl. VAT depending on the number of inverter brands.

Will investors accept the availability calculation?

They will if the rules mirror the O&M contract clauses exactly: grid exclusions, scheduled maintenance, minimum irradiance. Per-contract configuration is the most sensitive part of the project.

Can technicians work offline?

Yes. On remote ground-mounted plants, the app stores interventions and syncs once mobile coverage returns.

How quickly can we start?

A first version with work orders and the mobile app runs in 10 to 12 weeks; the availability calculation follows within 4 to 6 weeks.

What about only 15 plants?

A reduced scope at EUR 30,000 to 40,000 excl. VAT remains profitable once the portfolio exceeds about 10 MWp.

Let's scope your project. Work orders, technician app and availability calculation connected to your monitoring, EUR 30,000 to 80,000 excl. VAT, delivered in 4 to 7 months. Detailed quote within 48 h. WhatsApp +221 77 596 93 33.
