Three decisive certifications for Europe and Americas sales:
ECOCERT BIO (EU). Required for the "BIO Europe" label. Annual audit of one cooperative + processor. Cost: 2.8-4.5M FCFA / year (audit + fees). Time to obtain: 8-14 months.
COSMOS Organic. International standard (ECOCERT + Soil Association + ICEA + BDIH + Cosmebio). Recommended for premium EU sales. Audit: 1.8-2.8M FCFA / year (complementing ECOCERT). Allows COSMOS badge on label.
USDA Organic (USA). Required for entering US BIO market. Annual audit via NOP-approved certifier. Cost: 3.5-5.5M FCFA / year. Time 10-16 months.
Cosmetics: EU Notification + US FDA. Beyond labels:
- EU: CPNP file (Cosmetic Products Notification Portal). Mandatory PIF (Product Information File) with toxicologist-validated safety report. Safety report cost: 380 KFCFA - 1.2M FCFA / product. CPNP notification: free but requires expertise.
- US: Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program (FDA). MoCRA since 2025: facility registration + product listing mandatory. Support cost: 1.2-2.8M FCFA for 5-product pack.
Total certifications + compliance dossiers. 12-18M FCFA initial investment, then 4.5-7M FCFA / year recurring.
H2: Premium packaging — the difference between 8 EUR and 28 EUR
Raw shea in "plastic bag" sells 4-7 EUR / 200g on African markets. The same shea in signed premium packaging (amber glass, letterpress label, metal cap, FSC cardboard box) sells 18-32 EUR / 100g on Amazon EU and Shopify diaspora.

Three logistics channels.
- Air freight (DHL, FedEx, UPS). Lead time 3-7 days. Cost 12-22 EUR / kg for Europe, 18-32 EUR / kg for USA. Suited for B2C unit orders and small B2B reorders.
- Grouped air freight (Bolloré, Saga, Geodis). Lead time 7-12 days. Cost 6-12 EUR / kg. Suited for 50-300 kg.
