The verdict in three sentences
On large-basket B2B revenue, the card commission of 1.2 to 2.9 % + fixed fee can cost tens of thousands of euros a year, whereas a bank transfer at 0.10-0.50 EUR per operation is nearly free. The right provider (PSP) depends on your payment mix, volumes and need for ERP reconciliation. The 2026 rule: card for fluidity, transfer and deferred payment for large baskets.

Simulated cost by revenue volume
The same revenue costs radically differently depending on the payment method. 2026 simulation for a 100 % card mix at 2.2 % + 0.25 EUR versus 100 % transfer at 0.30 EUR, average basket 3,000 EUR.
| Monthly B2B revenue | Orders | 100 % card cost | 100 % transfer cost | Gap |

|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 EUR | 33.25 EUR | 0.30 EUR | card: instant / transfer: 1-2 d |

Mini case study
Claire, CFO of an industrial SME in Dubai, does 600,000 EUR of monthly B2B revenue over 200 orders, currently 100 % card at 2.2 %, i.e. 13,250 EUR/month in fees. By moving 70 % of her recurring customers to bank transfer with 30-day terms, she cuts card cost to 3,975 EUR and adds 42 EUR of transfers, i.e. 4,017 EUR/month total. Annual saving: about 110,000 EUR, weighed against a slight default risk controlled by customer scoring.

FAQ
Which PSP is cheapest at high volume?
Adyen and PayPlug often show the best card rates at volume, but it all depends on negotiation. On large recurring baskets, no card PSP beats a bank transfer at 0.10-0.50 EUR.
Why not move everything to transfer?
Because transfer lengthens collection (1 to 2 days) and shifts default risk to you. It suits solvent recurring customers, not new buyers.
How much does a chargeback cost?
Between 15 and 25 EUR per dispute depending on the PSP, excluding the refunded amount. In large-basket B2B, a few chargebacks justify anti-fraud scoring.
Are multi-currency fees negligible?
No: 1 to 2 % is added to the commission on foreign-currency payments. On international revenue, that weighs as much as the base card commission.
Does ERP reconciliation change the choice?
Yes: a PSP with fine reconciliation API (order reference, VAT, multi-account) saves days of accounting each month, which can outweigh a 0.2 % commission gap.
