Website redesign for a private or international school in Stockholm: budget, timeline and risks (2026)

The verdict in three sentences

For a private or international school in Stockholm, a website redesign with a local agency costs SEK 120,000 to 350,000 (roughly EUR 10,900 to 31,800), 2026 ballpark. What breaks most often is not the homepage but the links to existing tools: admissions portal, fee payment, school management system, parent app, calendar feeds. Keep those tools, list each link as a separate line on quote, and go live during the summer holidays, never in the middle of admissions season.

How do you know a redesign is due?

In Östermalm, Lidingö, Danderyd or Kista, Swedish and expatriate families (tech, finance, diplomacy) compare schools on their phones, often in English. Typical signals: the admissions and open day pages render badly on mobile, the Swedish and English versions have drifted apart, the term calendar is a PDF image, and the "Apply" button leads to an old form instead of the portal. If the admissions office answers the same questions every week, the site has stopped doing its job.

This is the heart of a school redesign. The public website is rebuilt; the operational tools stay in place and are re-linked.

Existing toolRoleRedesign riskHow to re-linkPrice

Fee paymentRegistration and tuition feesOrphaned payment pageLink from the families area, never a card form on the siteOn quote

Simple rule: every link to a tool is tested twice, at acceptance and on go-live day.

What budget and what timeline?

Prudent ranges based on typical local agency quotes; SEK to EUR conversions are approximate (EUR 1 is about SEK 11).

Tool links and integrationsOn quoteDepends on number of tools

An English and Swedish site falls under Premium. Included: a project manager in your time zone, native English or French copywriting, 3 months of support. Details are on our international offer page. Kolonell phases: URL and tool-link inventory in week 1, design in week 2, build and migration in week 3, acceptance and go-live in week 4.

Which risks go beyond integrations?

  • Lost rankings on admissions, curriculum, open days, transport and term dates pages: URL inventory, 301 map, Search Console checks for 6 weeks.
  • Children's data. The GDPR applies, supervised by IMY (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten). The enquiry form collects the minimum: parent name, contact, child's age or target year, preferred start date. No personnummer, no health, special needs, school report or custody data; documents go through the portal, on quote. This is not legal advice.
  • Pupil photos only with documented parental consent, and a removal procedure on request.
  • Status and inspection. Independent schools (friskolor) are approved and inspected by Skolinspektionen; mention curricula, accreditations and reports only as the school actually holds them, published as its own documents, as are safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA: contrast, keyboard use, captions, accessible policy PDFs.
  • Governance: who updates dates, news and policies after delivery.

Ask: how many tool links are included, who tests the redirects, who owns the domain, how the cookie banner works with admissions tags. A Stockholm agency remains the better choice if the school wants a Swedish-first site written continuously by a native speaker, on-site meetings with leadership, or a deep integration with the school management system built by a local partner.

Mini case study

Illustrative example. "Skogsglänta Montessori School", a fictional school of about 150 children near Danderyd, has 90 URLs and five tools to re-link. Agency quote: SEK 190,000, about EUR 17,300, tool links included. Kolonell option: Premium at EUR 8,200 (English and Swedish), plus a local photographer, third-party cost estimated at EUR 1,200, for EUR 9,400, with the five tool links priced separately on quote. Even if those links added EUR 2,000, the gap would remain about EUR 5,900. Go-live planned for early August, before the new school year.

FAQ

When should the new site go live?

Ideally between late June and mid-August, outside open days and the admissions peak. Allow 6 weeks of monitoring before the next admissions round opens.

Should we rebuild the admissions portal?

No. Keep the tool and re-link it; rebuilding it would often cost more than the whole redesign, and each link remains a line on quote.

Can we publish tuition fees?

Yes if the school wishes, on a dedicated page updated at least once a year. Amounts come from the school, never estimated by the provider.

What about old news posts?

Keep the last 2 years, redirect the rest to topic pages. Every removed URL gets its 301 redirect.

Is maintenance included?

Three months of support are included; after that, Kolonell maintenance is on quote.

Let's scope your project. Send us your list of tools, your languages and your summer window, and we reply with a scope, a tier between EUR 4,500 and EUR 8,200 and a schedule. See the international offer or request a free quote: detailed reply within 48 hours.
