The verdict in three sentences

For a Lausanne notary office focused on property and family matters, a Vaud agency remains the right call if your partners want to decide things in meetings at the office, rebuild the whole visual identity and hand photography to the same supplier. A remote studio is enough once the content is scoped and sign-off can happen by video call: the Growth tier costs CHF 4,500, against the CHF 15,000 to 30,000 commonly quoted locally (2026 ballpark). Either way, ownership of the domain, the code and the copy must be written into the contract before the first deposit.

Which criteria really matter for a Vaud notary office?

In the canton of Vaud, the notary is an independent Latin-type public officer. If you are an English-speaking founder or partner running a notary or legal document practice in Lausanne, your site is not selling an ordinary service: it reassures a family buying a flat in Pully, a couple preparing a marriage contract, or heirs trying to understand the steps of an estate. Lausanne's client base mixes long-standing residents, international staff drawn by EPFL, CHUV or the sports federations, and cross-border commuters. French dominates, English quickly becomes necessary.

The choice of provider turns on six criteria, not just price.

When the local agency is clearly the better choice

To be honest, a remote studio is not the right answer for every office. A Lausanne agency wins if:

  • you are redoing the logo, stationery and signage at the same time, with several creative workshops attended by both partners;
  • your partners never sign off in writing and prefer to settle things around a table;
  • the site must talk to practice software hosted on an internal server, which requires visits to your premises;
  • you want one supplier for the site, photos, a presentation video and ads in the regional press.

On the other hand, a remote studio is enough when the site has 8 to 15 pages, the base material exists (internal notes, client information sheets) and one partner agrees to steer the project in two one-hour video calls a week. You can compare tiers on the international offer page.

What a notary office site must contain, and must never promise

An office focused on property and family needs pages per type of deed: property purchase and sale, financing and mortgage certificates, marriage contracts, wills and inheritance agreements, powers of attorney, plus a page on legalisation and apostilles, noting that apostilles are issued by the cantonal chancellery (check with it for each case). Each page explains the steps, the documents to bring and an indicative timeframe, never guaranteeing a timeframe that depends on the land registry or another authority.

Three writing rules:

  • no legal advice in the copy: describe a process, invite the reader to book a meeting;
  • fees: notarial fees are often set by a cantonal tariff; link to a general explanation and check the wording with the chamber of notaries or the supervisory authority;
  • professional secrecy: a contact form limited to 4 or 5 fields, with no free-text box inviting clients to describe their family situation.

On data, the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (nLPD/revFADP), in force since 1 September 2023, requires you to inform people when collecting their data; the FDPIC is the supervisory authority. GDPR comes into play if you target EU residents. For accessibility, aim for WCAG 2.1 AA and publish an accessibility statement. Online booking and secure document upload are priced on quote. This is not legal advice.

What does each option cost over 3 years?

Questions to ask both types of provider

  • Whose name will the domain be registered in, and who holds the hosting credentials?
  • Where is form data stored: Switzerland, the EU or elsewhere?
  • Who writes the copy, and how many review rounds are included?
  • What happens in month four: who fixes an outage, how fast, at what price?
  • How are code and content handed over if the office changes provider?

Mini case study

Illustrative example: Laure Chappuis and Olivier Bersier run a notary office with two notaries and three assistants near Place Saint-François. The front desk handles 25 appointment requests a month and spends 10 minutes on the phone explaining which documents to bring for each file.

With "documents to bring" pages per type of deed, the call drops to 4 minutes. Saving: 25 × 6 minutes = 150 minutes a month, or 30 hours a year. At an internal cost of CHF 60 an hour, that is CHF 1,800 a year.

The Lausanne agency they consulted quoted CHF 22,000. The office picks the Growth tier at CHF 4,500 and hires a Vaud photographer for CHF 1,200 (third-party cost), CHF 5,700 in total. Difference: CHF 16,300, which the office sets aside for an English version later.

FAQ

How long does a notary office site take with a remote studio?

Allow 3 to 4 weeks of production once content is approved. Add 1 to 2 weeks if both partners review every page.

Can we publish our fees on the site?

Notarial fees are often set by a cantonal tariff, and the wording should be checked with the chamber of notaries. A 300 to 500 word page explaining how fees are calculated is usually enough.

Do we need an English version in Lausanne?

If more than one client in five is English-speaking, yes. Premium (the multilingual tier, languages set in the quote) costs CHF 8,200.

Where should contact form data be hosted?

In Switzerland or the EU, with a 4 to 5 field form and a privacy notice aligned with the nLPD. Avoid free tools that store messages outside Europe without safeguards.

Who owns the site at delivery?

Require the domain to be registered in the office's name and 100% of the code and copy to be assigned to it. With a remote studio as with a local agency, this goes in the contract.

Let's scope your project. An 8 to 15 page notary site in French, with or without English, can be scoped in one 45-minute video call for a budget of CHF 4,500 to 8,200 and delivered in 3 to 4 weeks. See the international offer or request a free quote: detailed reply within 48 hours.
