The verdict in three sentences

London has one of the densest markets of agencies specialised in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), and if you want a supplier who understands BIM visuals, sends a photographer to your sites and sits in your bid reviews, a local specialist is often the right choice, at a 2026 ballpark of 20 000 to 80 000 GBP. A remote studio like Kolonell fits when your project photography already exists and what you need is a credible, fast site for clients, prequalification and recruitment, at a fixed price of 2 300 GBP, 3 900 GBP or 6 900 GBP. The decision mostly depends on two things: whether you need on-site production, and whether a client portal or project extranet is in scope, which is a custom application quoted separately.

How do the options compare, criterion by criterion?

These ranges are prudent orders of magnitude, drawn from public rate cards of London agencies, minimum project sizes on Clutch.co profiles (AEC specialists often list minimums of 10 000 GBP or more), day and hourly rates published by London studios (often 80 to 150 GBP per hour) and freelance rates visible on Upwork. They are not quotes.

Kolonell's team is in Senegal (GMT), which means the same time as London in winter and one hour behind during British Summer Time: calls fit your working day. Payment by bank transfer or Wise, 50 % at kickoff, 50 % at delivery. Details on our international website offer.

When is a London specialist agency worth the premium?

Saying it plainly helps you decide faster. Choose the local specialist if:

  • you need new imagery: drone footage of a live site in Stratford, a time-lapse of a frame going up, team portraits at a Farringdon office;
  • your website is part of a bid strategy where the agency also writes case studies for framework submissions and attends bid reviews;
  • you want BIM or 3D model viewers, interactive project maps or a client extranet built and hosted by the same team;
  • your marketing lead wants a partner in the room every month, not a video call.

Kolonell does not visit sites, run photo shoots or attend meetings in person. If any of the points above is essential, stay local.

When does a remote studio do the job?

Many London consultancies and contractors already own good photography from their site photographers, and their real gap is a site that presents disciplines, sectors and references clearly, supports prequalification and wins engineers. That is a well defined build.

What does a London engineering firm need to prove online?

A London client reading your site is usually checking competence before a call. The typical work is varied: refurbishment and retrofit of existing buildings, residential towers, basement and party wall work in the boroughs, rail and utility works, data centres on the western edge of the capital. Several points come up again and again.

  • Registrations and memberships. State precisely which engineers are Chartered Engineers registered with the Engineering Council, and through which institution (ICE, IStructE, CIBSE). No vague "chartered team".
  • CDM 2015 roles. If you act as principal designer or principal contractor, say so and describe how you handle the duty. Since the Building Safety Act 2022, clients of higher-risk buildings look closely at competence.
  • Prequalification. Many buyers ask for Constructionline or CHAS membership, or a PAS 91 questionnaire. A page with current, downloadable documents saves your bid team hours.
  • Public procurement. The Procurement Act 2023 has applied to new public procurements in England since 24 February 2025, with notices on the Find a Tender service. Your site does not replace the tender portal, but it is where evaluators check your references.
  • References with consent. Name a client or a scheme only with written agreement; describe NDA projects anonymously ("a 22-storey residential refurbishment in south London").
  • Certifications. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or BREEAM rated projects only if you actually hold them.
  • Photo rights. Site photographers often grant limited licences; check before reusing images on the site and in tenders.

Compliance, facts only. Applications and enquiries sent through the site fall under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, supervised by the ICO. The Equality Act 2010 applies to service providers, and WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 AA is the usual technical reference for accessibility. This is not legal advice.

Which questions should you ask before choosing?

Need a professional website?

Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.

Prefer a call back?

Leave your WhatsApp number and a Kolonell expert will get back to you within 1 business day. Free, no strings attached.

You are :
  • Is the client portal or project extranet in the quote, or is it a separate application?
  • How many project sheets are loaded at launch, and who writes them?
  • How are heavy galleries handled (WebP or AVIF, lazy loading)?
  • Who owns the domain, the CMS account and the photography?
  • What does an extra discipline page or project template cost, in writing?
  • Who keeps prequalification documents current after launch?

What should you budget over three years?

Both columns use the same maintenance assumption after the support period and the same hosting. Kolonell maintenance after support is quoted on request: the figure below is an assumption, identical on both sides.

Mini case study

Illustrative example. Tom R. is business development manager at a 40-person MEP consultancy and is preparing to join a public sector framework. His current site has no project sheets and a careers page from 2019. A London AEC agency quotes 38 000 GBP, with a new photo shoot and a client extranet. Tom splits the need: Kolonell Premium at 6 900 GBP for the public site, plus 1 800 GBP for a local photographer on three finished projects, for 8 700 GBP. The extranet goes into a separate request, quoted as a custom application. If Tom's directors want the agency at their bid reviews, the 38 000 GBP buys that; if they mainly want a credible site before the framework deadline, the split covers it in 4 to 6 weeks.

FAQ

Can Kolonell write about CDM 2015 and building safety?

We write from your policies and the roles you actually hold. Your principal designer or H&S lead validates every statement before launch, which usually takes one review round in a 3 to 4 week project.

Is a client portal included?

No. A portal, project extranet, document control or ERP integration is a custom application, quoted on request, outside the 2 300 to 6 900 GBP plans.

Will the site help our prequalification?

It can host current capability statements, policies and accreditations for download. Constructionline, CHAS or PAS 91 submissions themselves stay with your bid team.

Are London specialists really better?

For on-site production and bid support, often yes, at 20 000 to 80 000 GBP. For a clear site built from your existing material, a remote fixed price is a reasonable alternative.

What languages are available?

Native English and French; a bilingual FR/EN site is available from Premium at 6 900 GBP. Other languages are supplied by you or quoted separately.

Let's scope your project. Send us your disciplines, five reference projects you are allowed to publish and your hiring priorities, and we reply with a fixed-price plan and a 3 to 4 week timeline. Request your free quote or see the international offer.
