The verdict in three sentences
For a Limassol structural and MEP engineering firm, a local agency is the better choice when the project depends on workshops with the partners, repeated shoots on active sites and Greek copy drafted by someone who sits in your meetings. A remote studio is enough when the firm already has an approved photo library, sells mostly in English to developers and foreign investors, and wants a fixed price: the Kolonell grid is EUR 2,700 (Starter), EUR 4,500 (Growth) and EUR 8,200 (Premium). Whichever you pick, the contract must put the domain, the code and the photo rights in the firm's name.
What does a Limassol engineering firm's website actually have to do?
Limassol's seafront has filled with high-rise residential towers, marina and mixed-use schemes and hotel refurbishments, while villas, offices and logistics buildings keep going up inland towards Ypsonas and the industrial areas. A structural and MEP firm working in that market speaks to three very different readers: developers and their project managers, the representatives of international buyers who want reassurance on quality, and the engineers it is trying to hire.
The site is therefore a working tool, and the brief should list:
- Project references with large images, published only after written client approval, sorted by type (residential towers, marina and seafront, hospitality, commercial, industrial).
- Services and sectors pages: structural design, MEP design, site supervision, energy performance input, written in precise technical English.
- Careers: structural and MEP profiles are hard to find on the island, so a clear vacancies page in English and Greek often matters more than the home page.
- A tender and prequalification library: company profile, team CVs, policies and insurance certificates as downloadable PDFs. Procurement rules differ from one owner to the next, so keep it generic and dated.
- Health and safety and sustainability pages, factual, with no unverifiable claims.
- Team pages with roles. In Cyprus, engineers practise after registration with the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK); describe titles the way the Chamber's general rules allow and never inflate anyone's status.
- Light pages that open on a site tablet with weak 4G.
Which criteria should decide between local and remote?
Scores out of 5, with two weighting profiles. Profile A is a firm that needs workshops and several project shoots. Profile B is an English-first firm with an existing photo library.
| Criterion | Weight A | Weight B | Limassol agency | Remote studio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time-zone overlap | 15% | 15% | 5 | 4 |
| Meetings and site visits | 20% | 5% | 5 | 2 |
| Native copy (English, Greek, Russian) | 20% | 15% | 4 | 3 |
| Fixed price and scope | 15% | 35% | 3 | 5 |
| Ownership and handover clarity | 15% | 20% | 4 | 4 |
| Photo and drone logistics | 15% | 10% | 4 | 3 |
| Weighted score, profile A | 4.20 | 3.40 | ||
| Weighted score, profile B | 3.85 | 4.00 |
Two notes on the scores. Cyprus runs on UTC+2 (UTC+3 in summer) and the Kolonell team works on UTC from Dakar, which leaves six to seven shared working hours a day: good, but not the same as walking into your office in Germasogeia. And photo or drone days are always handled by a third-party local photographer or drone operator who holds the permissions required by Cypriot civil aviation rules, whichever web provider you hire.
When is a Limassol agency clearly the better choice?
Be honest with yourself. Pay the local premium when:
- the partners want a kick-off workshop in the office and an in-person review every two weeks;
- Greek is the lead language because your buyers are local developers and public owners, and you want copy written by someone who hears your project meetings;
- you need shoots on several live sites spread over months, coordinated by one team that can be on site the same afternoon;
- you also want a retainer for LinkedIn, PR and trade fair material in Cyprus.
A remote studio is enough when the scope fits on two pages, English carries most of the business, photos exist with approvals, and you want delivery in 3 to 4 weeks at a known price. You can review the scope of each tier on our international websites page.
What does each route cost over three years?
2026 ballpark, based on typical Limassol agency quotes and public freelancer rates. Market maintenance and hosting figures are assumptions, not Kolonell prices.
| Item (3 years) | Limassol agency | Local freelancer | Kolonell remote studio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build, 15 to 25 pages | EUR 6,000 to 14,000 | EUR 2,000 to 5,000 | EUR 4,500 (Growth) or EUR 8,200 (Premium) |
| Greek or Russian version | often +20 to 40% | often outsourced | Premium (the multilingual tier, languages set in the quote) |
| Photo and drone days | often bundled, EUR 700 to 1,500 per day | separate | third-party local photographer, EUR 700 to 1,500 per day |
| Hosting and domain (market assumption) | EUR 450 to 1,200 | EUR 300 to 900 | EUR 300 to 900, client account |
| Maintenance after launch (market assumption) | EUR 2,880 to 7,200 (EUR 80 to 200 per month) | irregular | 3 months included, then on quote |
| Typical delivery | 6 to 12 weeks | 4 to 10 weeks | 3 to 4 weeks |
Which questions should you ask both providers?
Need a professional website?
Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.
- Will the domain, hosting account and code repository be registered in our firm's name from day one?
- Who writes the technical copy, in which languages, and who reviews it for accuracy?
- Who owns the project photos and drone footage, and does the licence cover tenders and print?
- How do you handle client approval before a project reference goes live?
- What is the delivery date, and what happens if a prequalification deadline moves earlier?
- How do careers and contact forms store CVs, and for how long?
- What exactly does handover include if we change provider in year two?
Mini case study
Illustrative example. Andreas, managing partner of a hypothetical 30-person structural and MEP firm in Limassol, wants a new site before a round of prequalifications. He has approved photos from twelve completed projects and needs English plus a Greek careers section.
- Local agency quote: EUR 11,000 build plus EUR 150 per month maintenance, so 11,000 + (36 x 150) = EUR 16,400 over three years.
- Remote route: Kolonell Premium at EUR 8,200 (the multilingual tier, languages set in the quote) plus one drone and photo day from a local operator at EUR 1,200, a third-party cost, so EUR 9,400 before maintenance, which is on quote after the 3 included months.
Andreas asks both providers for a like-for-like maintenance quote before signing. If his firm had needed monthly site shoots and Greek-first copy for public tenders, the local agency would have earned its premium.
FAQ
Can a remote studio write credible technical English for structural and MEP services?
Yes, if your engineers give a 60 to 90 minute interview per service line and review the drafts. Native English copywriting is included in the Kolonell grid; technical accuracy still needs one sign-off from your side.
Who owns the photos of our projects?
By default the photographer holds the copyright, so ask for a written assignment or a broad licence covering web, tenders and print. Budget EUR 700 to 1,500 per shoot day with a local photographer, and keep the client approvals on file.
Do we need Greek and Russian versions from day one?
Not always. Many firms launch in English with a Greek careers page, then add languages within 6 to 12 months; Premium is the tier for multilingual sites, with languages set in the quote.
How long does the switch take?
Count 3 to 4 weeks for the build once content is ready, plus 1 to 2 weeks for interviews and photo selection. Start at least 6 weeks before a known prequalification deadline.
Which data rules apply to our careers and contact forms?
The GDPR applies, supervised in Cyprus by the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection: publish a privacy notice, collect consent for non-essential cookies and set a retention period for CVs, for example 12 months. Aim for WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility. This is not legal advice.
