The verdict in three sentences
For a boutique hotel in Antwerp, the website has one job: move a share of bookings from OTAs to the direct booking engine, in your guests' four languages. A local agency is preferable if you want an on-site partner for shoots, seasonal content and Dutch; a remote studio is enough if you already have a photographer and your priority is a fast, multilingual site at a fixed price. Either way, the photographer will be from Antwerp and the domain must be in your name.
Which criteria for a 10 to 30 room hotel?
| Criterion | Antwerp agency | Remote studio (Kolonell) | Takeaway |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time difference | None | 1 to 2 hours, almost a shared day | Neutral |
| Meetings at the hotel | Easy | Video calls only | Local advantage |
| Languages: Dutch, French, English, German | Often native Dutch and English | Native English or French included, Dutch and German on quote | Price it |
| Booking engine integration (SiteMinder, Cloudbeds, Mews...) | Depends on the agency's experience | On quote, depending on the tool | Ask for a reference |
| Photo and video shoot | On-site coordination | Local photographer hired by you | Local in both cases |
| Seasonal updates (offers, events) | Possible on retainer | Through the CMS by your team | 1-hour training |
| Build price | EUR 8,000 to 25,000 (ballpark) | EUR 2,700, 4,500 or 8,200 | Large gap |
Local ranges reflect typical agency quotes and public agency rate pages: EUR 3,000 to 8,000 with a freelancer, EUR 8,000 to 25,000 with an agency for a custom hotel site. A 2026 ballpark.
Why direct bookings change the maths
OTAs typically take 15 to 25 percent commission per booking. For a 14-room hotel at EUR 180 a night and 72 percent occupancy, that is about 3,680 room nights a year. If 60 percent go through OTAs at 18 percent commission, the annual bill exceeds EUR 71,000. Shifting 10 points of share to direct, about 368 room nights, saves close to EUR 11,900 a year in commissions.
So the site must:
- show the best direct rate and its perks (breakfast, early check-in) from the home page;
- embed the booking engine without visually leaving the site;
- present each room and suite with photos, size, bedding and view;
- offer local experiences: Het Zuid, the Plantin-Moretus Museum, the fashion district, the port;
- give precise accessibility information: steps, lift, door widths, adapted room;
- load fast on mobile, with AVIF or WebP images.
When the Antwerp agency is the better choice
To be honest: if your guests are mostly Belgian and Dutch, if you change offers every month and would rather delegate those updates, or if you want someone who comes to the hotel to direct shoots, the local agency is worth the price difference. It also knows the city's tourism ecosystem.
A remote studio fits when your team can handle updates in the CMS, your photos are recent and international guests dominate. Our international offer includes a project manager reachable in your time zone, native English or French copywriting, delivery in 3 to 4 weeks and 3 months of support.
Cost over 3 years
| Item | Antwerp agency (ballpark) | Remote studio, Growth plan |
|---|---|---|
| Website build | EUR 9,000 to 18,000 | EUR 4,500 |
| Dutch and German translation | Often included | EUR 1,200 to 2,400 (on quote) |
| Photo and video, local supplier | EUR 2,000 to 5,000 | EUR 2,000 to 5,000 |
| Hosting and maintenance, 36 months (market) | EUR 1,440 to 4,320 | EUR 1,440 to 4,320 |
| Booking engine integration | Per quote | On quote |
| 3-year total, excluding engine | EUR 12,440 to 27,320 | EUR 9,140 to 16,220 |
The booking engine subscription is the same whichever provider you choose, so it does not change the comparison.

Local frame and questions to ask
Booking and contact forms fall under the GDPR, supervised by the Belgian Data Protection Authority: privacy notice, consent for non-essential cookies, a processing agreement with the booking engine. The European Accessibility Act, applicable since June 2025, can cover online booking for consumers; service micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 staff and turnover or balance sheet under EUR 2 million) are exempt. Aim for WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 level AA regardless. Show clear prices including taxes. This is not legal advice.
Ask both providers: have you integrated our engine before? Are direct bookings tracked? Who holds the domain and hosting? How many languages are included? Who owns the photos?
Mini case study
*Illustrative example.* Els Peeters owns a 14-room boutique hotel in Het Zuid. 70 percent of her guests are international.
- Quote from an Antwerp agency: EUR 14,000, four languages included.
- Remote studio: Growth EUR 4,500 + Dutch and German translation EUR 1,800 = EUR 6,300.
- Difference: EUR 7,700, same booking engine in both cases.
Assuming 10 points of bookings move to direct, commission savings of about EUR 11,900 a year would pay back the site in 6 to 7 months with the studio and in about 14 months with the agency. She picks the studio and books an Antwerp photographer for one day at EUR 1,600.
FAQ
Can the site replace OTAs? No, and that is not the goal: OTAs remain useful for visibility. A realistic target is gaining 5 to 15 points of direct share over 12 to 24 months.
Which languages should an Antwerp hotel offer? At least English and Dutch, often French and German. Each extra language costs a ballpark EUR 600 to 1,200 in translation, on quote.
Is the booking engine included? Its integration is quoted depending on the tool. Its subscription, often a ballpark EUR 100 to 300 a month, is paid directly to the vendor.
How long until launch? 3 to 4 weeks with the studio if photos and texts are ready. Avoid launching in peak season: aim to go live 6 weeks before.
Do I need a video? A 30 to 60 second video helps on room pages and social media. Count EUR 1,000 to 2,500 with a local videographer and ask for a free quote covering integration.
Let's scope your project. A multilingual direct-booking site for 10 to 30 rooms, EUR 4,500 to 8,200 before photography and booking engine, live in 3 to 4 weeks. See the international offer or request a free quote: detailed reply within 48 hours.
