Laundry/dry-cleaning app: pickup, tracking and customer alerts 2026

Digital Africa

The verdict in three sentences

A dry cleaner's nightmare is lost or mixed-up garments and a phone ringing all day with "is it ready?". A QR label per bag/item and real-time statuses (pickup, washing, ready, delivered) kill both: each garment is traced and the customer is automatically notified via WhatsApp/SMS. Typical 2026 result: complaints -60%, subscription loyalty, for an app costing 700,000 to 1,700,000 FCFA.

Trace every bag, kill the calls

The QR is attached at intake. At each step the operator scans and the status changes. The customer tracks their order like a parcel and gets a message when it is ready. Wave payment on delivery removes the manual cash register.

Mini case study

Fatou runs a dry cleaner in Almadies, Dakar. She handles ~120 orders/week, average ticket 4,500 FCFA. Before the app: ~6 complaints/week (lost/mixed garments), 2 of them refunded or redone = ~20,000 FCFA, plus 2 staff tied up on the phone. With the app: complaints at ~2-3, losses traced, and a 25,000 FCFA monthly subscription taken by 40 clients = 1,000,000 FCFA recurring revenue/month. Freed-up time and loyalty pay back the 1,200,000 FCFA app in under 2 months.

FAQ

Does the QR survive washing?

We use resistant labels (heat-seal or reusable clips) depending on the garment type. For standard cleaning, one labeled bag per customer is enough; for delicates, we label item by item.

Does the customer need to install an app?

No. They receive notifications via WhatsApp and SMS, and track their order through a simple link. No installation, which maximizes adoption.

How does the subscription work?

The customer pays a monthly plan (e.g. 25,000 FCFA for X kg or X items) via Wave, deducted automatically per order. This secures your cash flow and increases frequency.

How much do notifications cost?

WhatsApp is very cheap; SMS costs ~15-25 FCFA each. With 1-2 messages per order and ~500 orders/month, expect ~10,000-20,000 FCFA/month, quickly covered by avoided complaints.
