The verdict in three sentences
For any group with more than 500 employees, connecting the time-tracking and expense app to payroll removes re-keying and bonus disputes. In our Casablanca reference case, the budget is MAD 60,000 to 150,000 excluding VAT; with Workday, BambooHR or ADP the same scope is quoted in your local currency on the same day-based logic. The critical point is the calculation rules (overtime, meal and transport allowances), which payroll must validate before any code, and a parallel test over two full payroll cycles is non-negotiable.
What the integration costs in 2026
Budget depends on the payroll software (Sage Payroll, a local solution, an outsourced payroll bureau, or Workday, BambooHR, ADP), the number of pay items sent and whether a central HRIS exists. Figures below are for the Casablanca reference project.
| Component | 2026 budget (MAD excl. VAT) | Timeline | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Export time-tracking variables to payroll | 25,000 to 45,000 | 3 to 4 weeks | regular hours, overtime at 25%, 50%, 100% |
| Export approved expense claims | 15,000 to 30,000 | 2 to 3 weeks | allowances, refunds, caps by grade |
| Employee sync from the HRIS | 10,000 to 25,000 | 2 weeks | joiners, leavers, transfers, employee ID |
| Social security checks (CNSS, AMO) | 8,000 to 20,000 | 1 to 2 weeks | contribution cap, taxable or exempt items |
| Pre-close variance dashboard | 10,000 to 20,000 | 2 weeks | anomaly alerts before submission |
| Parallel test over 2 payroll cycles | 8,000 to 15,000 | 2 months | payslip-by-payslip comparison |
| Full project total | 76,000 to 155,000 | 2 to 3 months + testing | 2026 order of magnitude |
Yearly maintenance is usually 10 to 15% of the project, revisited at each regulatory change (income tax brackets, contribution rates, finance act).
The three possible architectures
| Option | Principle | Relative cost | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payroll import file | the app generates a file in the format the payroll software expects | lowest | in-house payroll, single entity |
| Payroll software API | direct exchange, status per employee | medium | cloud payroll with documented API (Workday, BambooHR, ADP) |
| Central HRIS hub | the HRIS holds employees and variables, payroll pulls from it | highest | multi-entity group, several payroll tools |
| Outsourced payroll | standard export to the payroll bureau | low | payroll handled by an external firm |
| Current manual entry | payroll team re-keys variables | no project cost | under 100 employees only |
Workday, BambooHR and ADP all expose APIs, but access often requires a partner agreement or an add-on licence on your side: check this before signing the integration quote.
Regulatory points to scope
- Social security: variables must separate contributable and non-contributable items and respect contribution caps (CNSS in Morocco, equivalent rules elsewhere).
- Health insurance contributions: in Morocco AMO applies to the full gross salary with no cap, so every bonus counts.
- Exempt allowances: meal, transport and representation allowances have tax caps. The app must keep them apart from taxable pay.
- Data protection: employee data is personal data (Law 09-08 and CNDP filing in Morocco, GDPR in Europe). Role-based access and logging are required.
- Calendar: freeze a cut-off date for variables (for example the 20th) to leave 5 working days for checks.
Mini case study
Karim, HR director of a 900-employee retail group in Casablanca, has two payroll officers re-key overtime and expense claims from 14 sites every month. Measured time: 3 days a month for two people, i.e. 48 hours, plus about thirty employees disputing bonus gaps each month.

The full integration (time tracking, expenses, CNSS and AMO checks, variance dashboard) is quoted at MAD 120,000 excluding VAT, with MAD 15,000 yearly maintenance. The 48 hours freed, at a loaded cost of MAD 250 an hour, are worth MAD 12,000 a month, or MAD 144,000 a year. Payback in 10 months, before counting fewer disputes and management time saved across 14 sites.
FAQ
How long does it take to connect time tracking to payroll?
Allow 2 to 3 months of development and 2 months of parallel testing. Cut-over happens on the third payroll cycle, once two consecutive closes show no variance.
Do we need to change payroll software?
Rarely. In 8 projects out of 10, a well-structured import file into the existing software is enough, MAD 25,000 to 45,000 for the time-tracking part in the Casablanca case.
Can you integrate with Workday, BambooHR or ADP?
Yes, through their APIs or standard import formats. Budget mainly depends on API access conditions and the number of pay items, so we quote after reviewing your tenant and licences.
Is employee data protected?
Yes if the app follows local data protection law: filing with the authority where required, role-based access, encryption and logging. This represents about 10% of the budget and should never be cut from the quote.
Can we integrate an outsourced payroll bureau?
Yes, with a standard export sent to the bureau on a fixed date. It is often the cheapest option, MAD 20,000 to 40,000 in Casablanca.
