Dakar kids multi-sport club: a still rare format in 2026
In Senegal, the kids sport offering is very fragmented: Diambars/Génération Foot football academies (elitist, target pro talents), neighborhood clubs (isolated judo, taekwondo, karate), hotel pools (occasional swimming lessons), school PE classes (limited). No structured multi-sport offering for 6-12 years.
Demand: Dakar middle class+ families (Almadies, Mermoz, Sacré-Cœur, Point E, Sicap, Mermoz-Sotrac, Liberté 6, Ouakam, Yoff, Plateau) who want: (a) sport variety for discovery, (b) school-compatible hours (Wednesday afternoon + Saturday morning), (c) professional supervision, (d) kids-adapted format (play + learning).
Addressable target: 25,000-50,000 solvent Dakar 6-12 year kids families willing to pay 15-35 KFCFA/month.
Sport Kids Club, founded August 2024, contacted me in October 2024. 65 kids. Fourteen months later: 420 active kids, 95 M FCFA revenue. Here is the mechanism.
H2: Multi-activity format + weekly rotation
4-sport quarterly rotation. Each kid does 1 main sport/quarter but monthly discovery of another sport. Q1 example: main football (3 sessions/week), discovery basketball 1 session/month.
4 sport pillars offered.
- Football: synthetic field Tally Boumack/Pikine/Yoff partnership (35-65 KFCFA/session rental), former Diambars formation coaches.
- Basketball: ASC gym + international school partnerships (25-45 KFCFA/session rental), Dakar Université Club coaches.
- Swimming: partner hotel pools Pullman/Radisson/Méridien morning slots (45-85 KFCFA/session/8-kid group rental), BNSSA lifeguards.
- Judo: permanent dojo leased Sicap-Foire (5.5 M FCFA/year rent), federation black belts.
Bonus monthly discoveries. 1 Sunday/month other sport discovery (gym, athletics, kids climbing in partnership with climbing gym, sailing at Dakar Sailing Club, horse riding Bourdès).

FAQ
Why exactly 6-12 years?
Motor development window (movement learning, balance, coordination) + sufficient autonomy (vs 3-5 years requiring constant parental supervision) + before pre-teen (13-17 prefer 1-sport specialization, ego, identity). Motor studies: 6-12 = golden age for multi-activity (skill transfer between sports).
Why quarterly and not monthly payment?
3 reasons: (1) immediate cash (3 months advance cash), (2) matches school calendar reassuring parents, (3) churn reduction (parents abandon less after paying 3 months). Monthly: 25-35% churn, quarterly: 10-15% churn. Annual: 5-8% churn but stronger registration friction.
How do Tally Boumack and Pikine examples validate the model?
Tally Boumack (Grand-Yoff) and Pikine working-class neighborhoods show strong kids sport demand: overflowing informal football schools (300+ kids/club), modest families willing to pay 5-15 KFCFA/month. Our premium Almadies/Mermoz model (65-95 KFCFA/quarter) targets middle class+, but format inspired by working-class neighborhood popularity.
Coaches: recruitment and remuneration?
Top: former pros (former Diambars formation, former Senegal basketball youth, former federation judokas) reconverted. Salary: 280-650 KFCFA/month by experience + diplomas. Advantage: passion + stable frame + family-compatible hours (Wednesday + Saturday + evening). Recruitment via federation networks + LinkedIn + coach word-of-mouth.
Kids safety risks: protocols?
(1) All coaches: verified criminal record + pediatrician reference, (2) ratio 1 coach for 8-10 kids max, (3) first aid kit + defibrillator + reference pediatrician, (4) kids accident insurance (~2.5 M FCFA/year), (5) parent emergency protocol + ambulance, (6) kids photos: written parental authorization. 0 serious incident in 14 months.
