The verdict in three sentences
A Vietnamese raw cashew processor or a European kernel roaster will not sign with an Ivorian exporter they cannot verify: they want to see the KOR, the defect rate, moisture, certificates and the origin of each lot. A website publishing quality sheets per season and cooperative-level traceability replaces part of the email back-and-forth and shortens the cycle to a first contract. For a 12,000-tonne exporter and processor in Bouaké, the Kolonell budget ranges from 800,000 to 3,500,000 FCFA (1,220 to 5,340 EUR) by tier, over 6 to 8 weeks.
Two buyers, two ways of reading your site
Ivorian cashew serves two buyer families. Vietnamese and Indian processors buy raw nuts by the container and judge on kernel outturn. European importers and roasters buy white kernels graded by size (W180, W240, W320) and judge on food safety and traceability. The site must speak to both, with separate paths from the home page.
| Criterion | Vietnamese buyer (raw nuts) | European buyer (kernels) | Data to publish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality | KOR of 46 to 50 lbs per 80 kg bag | W240 or W320 grade, broken < 5% | Quality sheet per season |
| Defects | Defect rate < 10% | Visual defects, foreign matter | Lab results per lot |
| Moisture | < 10% at loading | < 5% for kernels | Measurement method |
| Volume | 1 to 20 forty-foot containers | 1 to 5 twenty-foot containers | Capacity and calendar |
| Documents | Certificate of origin, phytosanitary | + food safety certifications, aflatoxin tests | List and PDF samples |
| Traceability | Region of origin | Cooperative, farmers, geolocation | Map of sourcing areas |
KOR and defect figures are 2026 estimates for cashew from the Gbêkê region and northern Ivory Coast; the exporter publishes its own results certified by an independent lab or inspector.
Site structure, languages and tiers
The site must work in English, the trading language, and Vietnamese gives a real edge with processors in Binh Phuoc or Dong Nai. At Kolonell, languages are set in the quote, whatever the tier; you can translate only the raw nut path into Vietnamese to control the budget.
| Item | Starter | Growth | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kolonell budget | 800,000 to 1,200,000 FCFA (1,220 to 1,830 EUR) | 1,200,000 to 2,000,000 FCFA (1,830 to 3,050 EUR) | 2,000,000 to 3,500,000 FCFA (3,050 to 5,340 EUR) |
| Quality sheets | One sheet per product | Downloadable sheets per season | Sheets per lot with buyer access |
| Traceability | Text on sourcing | Cooperative map | Map + cooperative profiles and volumes |
| Quote request | Simple form | Qualified form (product, volume, port, Incoterm) | Form + CRM follow-up |
| Season news | No | Blog | Blog + buyer bulletin |
| Indicative timeline | 6 weeks | 7 weeks | 8 weeks |
For a 12,000-tonne player, Growth is the baseline; Premium makes sense if the exporter wants a buyer area with lab results for every lot, which European importers value for their own audits.
What gets a first container signed
An importer takes a measured first risk: a trial container. They do so if the site already answers what they would ask anyway: company registration and Cotton and Cashew Council approvals, storage and processing capacity, port of loading (San Pedro or Abidjan), Incoterms offered (FOB, CFR, CIF), payment terms (letter of credit, documentary collection), and dated photos of the plant and warehouse.
Add a season calendar: raw nut marketing opens in February or March, and buyers book volumes ahead. Publishing the opening date and available volumes creates an annual appointment with buyers.
Mini case study
Need a professional website?
Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.
Mr Ouattara, sales director of a cashew exporter and processor in Bouaké, chooses a Growth website at 1,900,000 FCFA, with Standard maintenance at 75,000 FCFA a month. First-year cost: 1,900,000 + 12 × 75,000 = 2,800,000 FCFA (about 4,270 EUR).
Goal: replace part of the sales made through middlemen with direct sales. On a forty-foot container of about 25 tonnes of raw nuts, cutting a middleman commission of 15 FCFA per kg saves 25,000 × 15 = 375,000 FCFA per container. Eight containers sold direct through the site cover the first year.
FAQ
Should we publish our KOR results online?
Yes, at least a range per season, for example 47 to 49 lbs. Buyers compare that figure first, and an exporter who hides it looks less reliable.
Is Vietnamese worth the investment?
If more than 30% of your volume goes to Vietnam, yes. Start with five to eight key pages on the raw nut path; languages are set in the quote.
How do we prove traceability without exposing suppliers?
Show partner cooperatives and aggregated volumes, with no personal farmer data. A map by sourcing area is enough to reassure a European buyer.
How long to go live before the season?
Allow 6 to 8 weeks. For a February season opening, start the project in November at the latest.
Can the site handle quote requests?
Yes: Growth includes a form qualified by product, volume, port and Incoterm, which saves 2 to 3 rounds of emails per request.
