The verdict in three sentences

For a boutique hotel in Kuala Lumpur, much of the redesign is decided on cutover day: a badly timed or poorly prepared go-live cuts bookings and emails at the worst moment. At Kolonell, budget USD 4,900 on Growth (one language) or USD 8,900 on Premium, the multilingual tier for English, Malay and Chinese, languages set in the quote, against a 2026 ballpark of MYR 20,000 to 150,000 with local agencies. The booking engine, channel manager and PMS are kept, re-embedded and tested on quote, on real dates and before the cutover.

Should you redesign now?

In Bukit Bintang, Bangsar or Chinatown, guests mix business travellers, tourists and long stays. Signals that a redesign is due: studio pages that do not explain monthly rates, an abandoned Malay or Chinese version, an engine that only shows dates after several screens, heavy photos that slow phones down, and long-stay offers buried in a PDF.

Local ranges reflect typical agency quotes; the conversion is approximate (about MYR 4.2 to USD 1). Every tier includes a project manager reachable in your time zone, native English or French copywriting, delivery in 3 to 4 weeks and 3 months of support; details are on the international offer page. On quote: booking engine, channel manager, PMS, long-stay resident portal, gift vouchers and CRM connections.

How do you plan the cutover?

Kolonell builds the site in 3 to 4 weeks once content is ready. The go-live date is chosen separately, on three criteria: a window your own data shows as quiet, no major event in Bukit Bintang or at the convention centre, and distance from the major festivals (Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali) and school holidays.

DeadlineTaskWhy
D-30URL inventory, 301 redirect mapProtect studio and offer pages that rank

Which cases should you test in the booking engine?

We keep the existing engine and re-embed it; we do not rebuild it. Tests run on real dates, with test bookings cancelled in the PMS.

Which other risks should you watch?

Visibility. Studio, long-stay and seasonal offer pages that rank are inventoried, 301-redirected and monitored in Search Console for 6 weeks. The Google Business Profile and platforms keep the same name, address and phone number.

Content. Cafe or restaurant menus move to HTML text, with allergen information checked by the kitchen. If the property holds JAKIM halal certification, it is stated exactly as issued; otherwise nothing is implied. Images move to WebP or AVIF with lazy loading.

Personal data. Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), amended in 2024 and overseen by the Personal Data Protection Commissioner, frames your forms. They collect the minimum, with no passport, ID or card data; payment happens only inside the engine. Rate parity is a matter for your OTA contracts. This is not legal advice.

You are :

Local agency or not? A Kuala Lumpur agency is preferable if you want Malay and Chinese copy produced locally, frequent shoots or someone on site on cutover day. Ask any provider: which cutover date do they propose and why, who lowers the TTL, who tests the engine on which dates, and who watches the emails the next day?

Mini case study

Illustrative example: Rumah Bangsar Suites, an aparthotel-style property of about 35 studios in 3 categories, focused on long stays. Test matrix: 8 cases × 3 categories = 24 test bookings, at 10 minutes each, so 4 hours, plus 1 hour to cancel them in the PMS. Cutover planned for a Tuesday morning in July, outside festivals and major trade shows, with the TTL lowered on the Sunday. Budget: Premium at USD 8,900 for English, Malay and Chinese, plus USD 700 for independent native Malay and Chinese reviewers (third-party cost), so USD 9,600, against an estimated established-agency quote of MYR 90,000, about USD 21,400. No booking gain is promised.

FAQ

Which day should we go live?

A Tuesday or Wednesday morning, in a week your own data shows as quiet. Avoid the 2 weeks around Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year.

How many engine tests should we plan?

At least 8 cases per room category, so 24 tests for 3 categories. Allow 4 to 5 hours, cancellations included.

Can emails be cut off?

No, as long as MX records stay unchanged and the TTL is lowered to 300 seconds 48 hours ahead. Confirmations are checked the next day.

Are Chinese and Malay included?

They fall under Premium at USD 8,900, the multilingual tier, languages set in the quote. Growth at USD 4,900 covers one language.

How long does the redesign take?

3 to 4 weeks of build once content is ready, then 6 weeks of Search Console monitoring. The cutover date can shift by a few days at no extra build cost.

Let's scope your project. A multilingual redesign with a cutover plan, real-date engine tests and 6 weeks of monitoring, from USD 4,900 to 8,900, delivered in 3 to 4 weeks. See the international offer or request a free quote: detailed reply within 48 hours.
