The verdict in three sentences
A boutique hotel website in Zurich built by a local agency usually costs 8 000 to 40 000+ CHF in 2026 (ballpark), and Zurich sits at the top of that range because local agency rates are often 120 to 200 CHF per hour. Kolonell builds a hotel site at a fixed 2 700, 4 500 or 8 200 CHF, embeds your existing booking engine, writes native English copy and delivers in 3 to 4 weeks (Premium: written schedule, usually 4 to 6 weeks). Where a Zurich agency clearly wins is on-site photography, German copy written in-house and deep booking integrations; where a remote studio wins is a clean, fast, fixed-price site that sends guests to your booking engine.
How much do Zurich agencies charge for a boutique hotel site?
Hotel sites look simple from the outside: rooms, a gallery, a booking button. The cost hides in three places: photography, languages and the connection to your booking engine or channel manager. The ranges below are drawn from public rate cards and hourly rates commonly published by Swiss digital agencies, Clutch.co agency profiles that list minimum project sizes, and freelance platform rates (Malt, Upwork). They are a 2026 ballpark, vary with scope and are not official figures.
| Option | Price, 2026 ballpark | Typical timeline | What is usually included | After launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer, Zurich or platform | 3 000 to 10 000 CHF | 4 to 10 weeks | Design and build, booking engine embed | Hourly, often 120 CHF and up for agencies, less for freelancers |
| Zurich studio | 12 000 to 25 000 CHF | 8 to 12 weeks | Design, build, German and English copy | Maintenance contract |
| Hospitality-focused agency | 25 000 to 40 000+ CHF | 10 to 20 weeks | Brand work, photo and video shoot, integrations | Monthly retainer |
| Kolonell Starter | 2 700 CHF | 3 to 4 weeks | Native English copy, booking engine embed, project manager | 3 months support |
| Kolonell Growth | 4 500 CHF | 3 to 4 weeks | Same base, wider scope agreed in the quote | 3 months support |
| Kolonell Premium | 8 200 CHF | Usually 4 to 6 weeks, written schedule | Bilingual FR/EN site available | 6 months support |
All Kolonell tiers include a project manager reachable in your time zone (the team is based in Senegal, GMT, one or two hours behind Zurich), Google Meet calls at a time that suits you, a written weekly update, the domain registered in the hotel's name and every access handed over. Payment by bank transfer or Wise, 50 % to start and 50 % at delivery. The conditions are on our international website offer.
What does a boutique hotel site in Zurich need?
- Room and suite pages with real photos, sizes as you state them, amenities and a clear path to booking.
- Your existing booking engine. Kolonell embeds or links the booking engine you already use. Anything beyond a standard embed, such as a deeper connection with your channel manager or a custom rate display, is quoted on request. We never show rates or availability that do not come from your own system.
- Restaurant, bar, spa or event pages if you run them, each with its own enquiry path.
- A neighbourhood page for the area around the hotel, written for guests rather than for search engines.
- Languages. Guests in Zurich read German, English and often French or Italian. Kolonell writes natively in English and French. German and Italian are supplied by the hotel or quoted separately. A bilingual FR/EN site is available from Premium.
- Photography. It drives bookings more than any other element, and it is not included in the Kolonell grid: you supply your images or book a Zurich photographer separately. This is the strongest argument for a local agency.
- Data protection. Contact and enquiry forms fall under the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nLPD/revFADP), in force since 1 September 2023, and guests from the EU bring GDPR questions with them. Your booking engine provider handles payment data. This is not legal advice: check your privacy notice with your adviser.
- Accessibility. WCAG 2.1 AA is the common reference, and the European Accessibility Act, applicable since 28 June 2025 to certain services, concerns hotels selling to EU guests.
On references: Kolonell has delivered a trilingual FR/EN/AR site for Orven Properties in Dubai and a bilingual EN/FR site with a booking calendar for TR Signing Group in New Jersey. We do not publish client figures.
What will the site cost over 3 years?
An illustrative calculation, with the same hypothetical maintenance budget applied to every option because Kolonell maintenance after the support period is quoted, not fixed.
| Item, 3 years | Hospitality agency | Zurich freelancer | Kolonell Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website build | 30 000 CHF | 9 000 CHF | 8 200 CHF |
| Professional photography | Included | 3 000 CHF (assumption) | 3 000 CHF (assumption) |
| German translation | Included | 2 000 CHF (assumption) | 2 000 CHF (assumption) |
| Maintenance, same assumption of 2 000 CHF per year | 6 000 CHF | 6 000 CHF | 6 000 CHF |
| Support included after launch | Depends on contract | Rarely defined | 6 months |
| Illustrative 3-year total | 36 000 CHF | 20 000 CHF | 19 200 CHF |
Freelancer and Kolonell are close on paper. The difference is a written scope, a fixed price, a project manager and a defined support period.
Mini case study
Illustrative example, fictional hotel. Lukas manages a 22-room boutique hotel near the Old Town in Zurich. He wants room pages, a bar page, a neighbourhood guide, a gallery and his existing booking engine embedded, in German and English. A hospitality agency quotes 32 000 CHF including a photo shoot and German copy.
With Kolonell Premium at 8 200 CHF, a local photographer at 3 000 CHF (assumption) and a German translator at 2 000 CHF (assumption), the build costs 13 200 CHF: 18 800 CHF less, about 59 % below the agency quote. Over 3 years with the same maintenance assumption of 2 000 CHF per year, that is 38 000 CHF against 19 200 CHF. The trade-off: Lukas coordinates the shoot and the translation himself, and any custom channel manager work is quoted on top.

FAQ
Can Kolonell connect our channel manager?
We embed or link your existing booking engine as part of the scope. A deeper connection with your channel manager is quoted on request, on top of the 2 700, 4 500 or 8 200 CHF tiers.
Do you write in German?
No, Kolonell writes natively in English and French. German and Italian are supplied by the hotel or quoted separately, and the 3 to 4 week timeline applies once texts are ready.
Is photography included?
No, on-site photo and video shoots are not part of the grid. Most hotels budget a local photographer separately; our illustration uses 3 000 CHF as an assumption.
How is payment handled?
Bank transfer or Wise, 50 % at kickoff and 50 % at delivery. On Premium, that is 4 100 CHF at each stage.
What support do we get after launch?
3 months on Starter and Growth, 6 months on Premium. Maintenance after that period is quoted on request.
Let's scope your project. Send us your room list, languages and booking engine, and we will quote a fixed price on Starter, Growth or Premium with a delivery schedule in writing. Request your free quote or see the international offer.
