The verdict in three sentences
For a boutique hotel website in Aarhus, Danish agencies quote roughly DKK 60,000 to 300,000 in 2026 order-of-magnitude terms, about 8 000 to 40 000 EUR, and local freelancers around DKK 15,000 to 60,000 (about 2 000 to 8 000 EUR). Kolonell charges a fixed 2 700, 4 500 or 8 200 EUR with native English copy, a project manager on your schedule and the domain in your name. Be clear about the limit: Kolonell does not write Danish, so if most of your guests are Danes booking a weekend, a conference or a Christmas lunch, an Aarhus agency writing natively in Danish is probably the better choice.
What do Aarhus agencies, freelancers and Kolonell charge?
| Option | Typical 2026 price (order of magnitude) | Usually included | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aarhus freelancer | DKK 15,000 to 60,000, about 2 000 to 8 000 EUR | Theme, Danish and English, booking engine link | 4 to 8 weeks |
| Aarhus web studio | DKK 60,000 to 150,000, about 8 000 to 20 000 EUR | Custom design, Danish copy support, SEO basics | 8 to 12 weeks |
| Danish hospitality agency | DKK 150,000 to 300,000, about 20 000 to 40 000 EUR | Brand, photo and video, campaigns, booking optimisation | 12 to 20 weeks |
| Kolonell Starter | 2 700 EUR fixed | Up to 5 pages in English, booking engine integration | 3 to 4 weeks |
| Kolonell Growth | 4 500 EUR fixed | Rooms, restaurant, meetings and offer pages, blog, analytics | 3 to 4 weeks |
| Kolonell Premium | 8 200 EUR fixed | Advanced design and motion, deeper SEO, FR/EN possible | 4 to 6 weeks, written plan |
These ranges are cautious estimates based on public price pages of Danish agencies, minimum project sizes on Clutch.co profiles for Denmark, hourly rates commonly published by Danish studios (often DKK 750 to 1,200, about 100 to 160 EUR) and freelance rates on Upwork and Danish freelance platforms. Danish agency rates are among the higher ones in Europe, which is where a fixed-price remote studio becomes interesting. All tiers are detailed on our international websites page.
What does an Aarhus boutique hotel site need to do?
Aarhus guests come in distinct waves. Danish couples and families come for ARoS and its rainbow panorama, Den Gamle By, Moesgaard Museum and the Latin Quarter. Business guests visit the university, Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby, the wind and tech companies, and conferences at the concert hall and the city's congress venues. Autumn and December bring company dinners and Christmas lunches, and summer brings German and Scandinavian road trippers and visitors from cruise calls.
- A direct booking engine of your choice (subscription or commission depending on the provider, to be checked). Kolonell integrates it, it does not supply it.
- A channel manager synced with the OTAs, whose commissions are often 15 to 25 % depending on the contract.
- Restaurant and meetings pages: menus, table bookings through your restaurant system, meeting room capacities, Christmas lunch packages.
- Languages: Danish first for domestic guests, English for international and business visitors, German for summer. Kolonell writes English and French natively; Danish and German are supplied by you or quoted separately.
- Sustainability facts: if you hold an eco label, show it precisely, with the certificate name and year.
- Arrival details: the light rail, Aarhus H, parking near the Latin Quarter or Aarhus Ø, and transfers from Aarhus and Billund airports.
What does the full cost look like over 3 years?
| Item over 36 months | Aarhus web studio | Kolonell Growth |
|---|---|---|
| Website build | DKK 110,000, about 14 700 EUR | 4 500 EUR |
| Danish and German copy | Danish included, German about 600 EUR | About 1 500 EUR with local translators |
| Post-launch support | Usually 1 to 3 months | 3 months included |
| Maintenance (same assumption both sides) | 120 EUR a month for 33 months, 3 960 EUR | 3 960 EUR, quoted separately |
| Photo shoot, rooms and restaurant | Often coordinated, about 1 300 EUR | Aarhus photographer you book, about 1 300 EUR |
| Indicative total | About 20 560 EUR | About 11 260 EUR |
Booking engine, channel manager and restaurant booking fees are left out because they are the same whichever builder you choose. If your Danish text needs real copywriting rather than translation, add a few hundred euros on the Kolonell side.
What about compliance in Denmark?
Guest data is covered by the GDPR, supervised in Denmark by Datatilsynet, the Danish Data Protection Agency. Your site needs a privacy notice, prior consent for non-essential cookies and a lawful basis for marketing emails, for example to past conference clients. Card payments must be handled by the booking engine or a payment provider certified under PCI DSS, never stored on the website. The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to many consumer digital services, with an exemption for microenterprises providing services; WCAG 2.1 AA is a sensible target anyway. If you display allergen information on your restaurant pages, keep it identical to what the kitchen actually serves. This is not legal advice.
Questions to ask any Aarhus or remote supplier
- Who writes the Danish copy, and is it native or machine translated?
- Is the restaurant booking system integrated or only linked?
- How many offers and packages, such as Christmas lunches, are in the written scope?
- Who owns the domain, hosting and analytics at the end of the project?
- Can the photos be used on OTAs, Google and social media?
- What does a new seasonal page cost after launch?

Mini case study
Illustrative example. Mikkel H. runs a 30-room hotel with a small restaurant in the Latin Quarter. Danish guests make up about 55 % of stays, and his growth plan targets international conference visitors and German summer guests. An Aarhus studio quotes DKK 120,000 (about 16 100 EUR) for Danish and English, delivered in 12 weeks. Kolonell Growth costs 4 500 EUR in English, plus about 1 500 EUR for Danish and German translation, so roughly 6 000 EUR, delivered in 4 weeks.
The gap is about 10 100 EUR. With an average direct stay of DKK 1,400 (about 190 EUR) and a 16 % OTA commission avoided, that gap equals the commission on roughly 330 bookings. Mikkel chooses Kolonell for the English and German facing site, while noting that if Danish weekend guests were his priority, the local studio would have been the logical choice.
FAQ
Can Kolonell write the site in Danish?
No. We write English and French natively; Danish is supplied by you or quoted separately, often around 600 to 1 000 EUR for a hotel site.
Is an Aarhus freelancer cheaper than Kolonell?
Sometimes. Freelance builds start around DKK 15,000, about 2 000 EUR, below Kolonell Starter at 2 700 EUR, usually with a lighter scope and no dedicated project manager.
What is the time difference with Aarhus?
Denmark is one hour ahead of GMT in winter and two in summer. Calls are scheduled in your working day on Google Meet, and you get a written update every week.
Do you handle the restaurant reservations?
We integrate the table booking system you already use, by link or embedded widget, within the 3 to 4 week build. Its subscription stays with the provider.
How is payment made?
Bank transfer or Wise, 50 % at kickoff and 50 % at delivery, so two payments of 2 250 EUR on Growth.
