The verdict in three sentences
Manual payouts to dozens of vendors are the first thing that breaks as a marketplace grows. Disbursement (bulk payment) APIs automate the transfers, but impose daily caps (2 to 5M FCFA), outbound fees (0.5-1%) and a 3 to 6% failure rate (invalid numbers). The fix: a weekly cron that pays out, retries failures, generates a PDF statement and notifies each vendor on WhatsApp.
Disbursement APIs compared
Each operator exposes an outbound payout API (B2C / disbursement) with its own caps and fees. Vendor KYC is mandatory before any payout: verified number, ID document, sometimes business registration for high amounts.
| Provider | Daily cap (order of magnitude) | Disbursement fee | Vendor KYC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wave Payout | 3-5M FCFA | ~0.5% | Number + ID |
| Orange Money B2C | 2-4M FCFA | 0.7-1% | Number + ID |
| MTN MoMo Disbursement | 2-4M FCFA | 0.6-1% | Number + ID |
| M-Pesa B2C | Country-dependent | 0.5-1% | Number + ID |
Handling failures and the cron
A payout fails in 3 to 6% of cases: mistyped number, unregistered account, vendor cap reached. The payout cron must isolate these failures, notify the vendor to correct them, and automatically retry on the next cycle without blocking the other transfers.
| Cron step | Action | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Sales aggregation | Sum of delivered sales T-7 | Weekly (Friday) |
| KYC check | Blocks unverified vendors | Every run |
| Bulk API call | Send the payout batch | Weekly |
| Failure handling | Retry queue + notification | Immediate |
| PDF statement | Generated and archived per vendor | After success |
| WhatsApp notification | "You received X FCFA" | After success |
Mini case study
Ibrahim runs DakarBazar with 200 active vendors and GMV of 6,000,000 FCFA/week. After a 15% commission, he pays out 85%, i.e. 5,100,000 FCFA weekly. With a 3M FCFA daily cap on his disbursement account, he spreads payouts over 2 days. Fees at 0.5% cost him 25,500 FCFA/week, i.e. ≈ 1,326,000 FCFA/year. A 4% failure rate hits 8 vendors per cycle: the cron puts them in a retry queue and sends a WhatsApp to fix their number — 6 of 8 are resolved on the next cycle.

Kolonell builds websites that attract clients, optimized for the Sénégalese market. Free quote in 2 minutes.
What daily disbursement cap should I plan for?
Expect 2 to 5M FCFA/day depending on the operator and your KYC tier. Above that, spread over several days or negotiate a merchant account with a raised cap.
How much do outbound payout fees cost?
Between 0.5 and 1% of the amount paid. For 5,100,000 FCFA/week at 0.5%, that's ≈ 25,500 FCFA per cycle, to build into your commission margin.
What do I do with failed payouts?
A 3-6% failure rate is normal (invalid numbers). Isolate them in a retry queue, notify the vendor via WhatsApp, and retry next cycle. Never block the whole batch for one isolated failure.
Is vendor KYC really mandatory?
Yes: no operator pays an unidentified beneficiary beyond small amounts. Verified number and ID at minimum, business registration for high-volume vendors.
